Spurs v QPR - The Final Word

What a disappointment! Rangers looked anything but a Premiership side today, we were slow off of the mark, bullied off the ball and presented very little threat to Spurs in the first half. Matt Phillips was put through when we were 1-0 down but fired his shot over the goalkeeper's bar.

With Austin out with a hamstring injury picked up in training, our lack of depth upfront was once again exposed, Matt Phillips other then the missed shot hardly threatened the Spurs back four. Remy was left alone up front and was playing with his back to the goal on too many occasions, he is a player who likes to run at defences, something that did not happen today.

The debuts of both Leroy Fer and Mauricio Isla were not inspiring and will take some time it seems to settle into a side which seemed to lack any vision or threat during the first half. We were down 3-0 at half time, Chadli (2) and Dier the scorers, the match was more or less over. Spurs Adebayor hit the back of the net once more in the second half making it 4-0. The R's played slightly better in the second half, Nedum Onuha was brought on at half time to replace Dunne, but that was properly due to Spurs having done the damage and relaxing into cruise control.

But it was our lack of passion, the team had no fight about them, this is not a promising start, more effort is required and at least play as if you want to win. They are going to have to take a long hard look at themselves this week and respond with greater fight and passion. Undoubtedly Spurs will give other sides problems when they visit White Hart Lane, but QPR are going to have to shape up sooner rather then later.

Zamora and Caulker both had chances on goal in the second half but the game was over as far as being a contest. The Premier league is unforgiving and it is easy to detect a growing pessimism amongst Rangers fans. These are the properly the same ones who assumed that our season was over last season when we were beaten at Charlton Athletic last year in February.

Because of past experiences it can be easy for Rangers fans to see only a repeat of our previous struggles. We can learn from this and move on, we play Sunderland at home next week and it will be back to the drawing board for the team, let us hope.
