Sheffield United v Port Vale - e-Football Preview

Article by Sam Attrap

Clean slate for the players as Blades entertain mangers old and new.

So Sheffield United go into tomorrow’s fixture with Port Vale, with the clear understanding that they must win.

After relieving David Weir of managerial duties, the Blades squad should be under no illusions that individual performances may prove dear to their longevity at the lane.

Tomorrow’s game will see pressure compounded from all angles; with the new boss watching on; a former boss in the dugout (Micky Adams) and with season tickets holders offered the chance to ‘bring a friend for free’ – there will be no hiding place.

Port Vale boss Adams fell foul of Sheffield United’s recent spell of axing managers without more than a season to prove themselves, having been sacked when United were at the foot of the Championship. Now at the foot of League One, the proposition is an entirely different one, although something is hinting at a Blades win.

After a spirited second half turnaround against Coventry last Sunday, the Blades players showed an increased desire and striker Lyle Taylor picked up his first goals of the season, although it could not help, succumbing to a 3-2 defeat.

However, when the Blades take on Port Vale they will hope they can carry the form of that second half and really take the game to a mediocre, albeit on paper, Port Vale side. Caretaker boss Chris Morgan will certainly hope so, after affirming his desire to one day move into management, a solid display tomorrow could even push his name into the ring to take the job on a permanent basis.
