Are Tottenham risking another slow start with long haul overseas visit

Premier League side Tottenham flew to Melbourne towards the end of last week, embarking on a 21,178 mile round trip, returning just days before the start of the new season.

Mauricio Pochettino's side are one of six Premier League teams competing in the International Champions Cup - a series of mini-tournaments across the globe, which not only involves the Australian games but also a stop off in Oslo for a further tie versus Inter Milan.

Many will argue in today's global game that these trips are important in order to connect with an overseas fan base and that commercially clubs make enough from these ventures to justify the miles put in.

However, should Spurs suffer a similar start to this season that they did the last campaign then many will question the wisdom of dragging the players half way across the globe so soon after a summer of tournament football and with the league season soon upon us.

What do you think? Is all the travelling just before the season worth it or a bad start waiting to happen?

  1. Only eriksen and lamela travelled out of the normal starting eleven. Wanyama will start because dembele is banned but the other eight will be well rested. Terrible piece of writing no research into the players on tour.
