A-League Countdown Begins
Less than 100 days until the A-League kicks off, what is in store for the 2013/14 season?
With the start of the 2013/2014 A-League season in less than 100 days, we have a lot to look forward to in this ever-growing league.
The 2012/2013 season was a major success, Alessandro Del Piero graced us with his iconic image, Shinji Ono gave scintillating displays of technique and class. Most of all, we got to see the birth of an Australian football future powerhouse in the Western Sydney Wanderers. The Wanderers, led by the flair of Ono had a fantastic campaign where they finished minor premiers and made it to the grand final, where they were beaten by 2 time minor premiers and 3 time grand final runners up, the Central Coast Mariners. A match worthy of Grand Final status, a brilliant display of counter attacking football shown by the Mariners that did its best to silence the roar of the Western Sydney fans. It finished 2-0, with the Wanderers faithful sticking around to cheer on their team even in defeat.
Both the Mariners and the Wanderers are looking to build on their 12/13 campaigns by taking the next step with their stadiums. The Mariners are looking to gain full ownership of Bluetongue Stadium to ensure the best playing surface and stadium upkeep is kept to their standards. The Wanderers, via their resounding success enjoyed in their debut A-League season has been rewarded with the announcement of an $20 million upgrade to Parramatta Stadium. The West Sydney team and their fanatic support will be glad to hear that those plans should be done by 2015, adding seats to increase capacity and improved facilities for players.
Elsewhere in the league, the Melbourne Heart have signalled an intent that they are fed up being in the shadows of their 2 time A-League championship winning derby rivals, Melbourne Victory. The Heart have announced the signings Rob Wielaert & former Australian golden boy, Harry Kewell.
Kewell, a former Socceroos captain, is looking to get his club and country football back on track after a torrid time at Qatari club Al-Gharafa. At 34 years of age, Harry knows this is a make or break season if he wants any chance of earning himself a trip to Rio. It won't be easy, but with his quality I am sure he will get a second look from Holger Osieck if he showcases himself in the upcoming season.

With the transfer window open, and off contract players from overseas looking for a fresh start or new challenge - I am sure we will see some transfers being pushed through in the A-League this month. Only adding to the hype of the upcoming season.
That's all for now, stay tuned for upcoming articles, player profiles and season previews.
