All the gooners, no need of thanking us at Merseyside and taking us for a night at the pub… we all carry the same opinion on Spurs. The Lilywhites will all claim that the media hates them. But in support of the press, it’s hard to pick positives from them. I respect the fact that they have a large fan base of dedicated supporters (In UK alone), but the fans have been made to buy into something that doesn’t really exist. ”The Spurs way”. We can’t help ourselves but just laugh them of. What is it? We all know it’s a fallacy but they claim it’s playing with pure flair and exhilarating football while tearing teams apart. Well it’s not quite that unless you embrace exaggeration to certain extents.
Well in the 50s and 60s we saw what they were capable of. But they never came close to playing the Spurs way in 2006 along with 2010-11. Spurs’ fans will be quick to disagree but as long as you’re under the age of 60, you are among the disillusioned fans. Everything Spurs have done so far has been an attempt to emulate their past achievements. It’s not wrong to dream of better days in future, but better days won’t come easy and knock on your door. You have to make the correct choice and follow the right path season after season. But that has not been the case, making one step forward and two steps backwards. That is why you will be referred to as the perennial over-spenders and underachievers of the premier league. Thanks in no small part to Daniel Levy for playing a role in achieving that title.
In February 2001 something great happened, Levy became the chairman of Tottenham after ENIC bought a controlling stake in the club. Levy was formerly a director of the Scottish football club Rangers. Within a month of taking over, George Graham departed despite leading Spurs to their first trophy in eight years. In Levy’s time in charge, nine managers have departed the club. He is an ‘incredible’ business man, not a football person. All those poor decisions of his have come back to haunt him. This shows that even Daniel Levy himself has no idea what “The Spurs way” is. In the summer of 2013, Spurs allowed their prized asset to depart the club. They went on and splashed over £100m on several foreign players who are simply not good enough. Only Eriksen alone has made his mark, yes Eriksen, the one that got away. Scouted by Liverpool, but signed for Spurs. It seems that Spurs really lack a vision for the club. They are always trying to sign whoever is linked with Liverpool or Arsenal. Other than YouTube do they have scouts? God knows how many YouTube channels have Levy and Baldini subscribed to.
Holtby, Soldado, Glyfi and Eriksen were all at one time been linked with Liverpool. But Levy went ahead and pulled of a coup and captured their signatures. Apart from the latter, the rest are flops. A player can’t lose his prowess overnight; I firmly believe it’s the lilywhites who don’t know how to use them well. Their lack of vision has proved costly in the transfer market. I was happy for Willian when Chelsea hijacked his transfer; I think he was rescued from being a flop. The rest of the flops were scouted via YouTube; Capoue, Chiriches, Chadli, Lamela and Paulinho. It is evident that Spurs are trying to copy Liverpool’s vision. But where they go wrong is by trying to hijack their transfers. For instance, Liverpool wants Lallana, but also Tottenham are in the race. Are they even serious!! They have so many ‘number 10’s in their squad and most notably Christian Eriksen. Heard that they want Moreno and are willing to sweeten the deal by involving Capoue and Soldado. Gamble after gamble causing them shambles, when will they ever learn?
Okay, they saw Liverpool’s gamble on Brendan Rodgers pay off and guess what, they also took a similar dive. I was surprised how Levy convinced Poch to join Spurs, I don’t think Poch is any special from the past managers and with a dismal run of performances; he’ll face the sack too. I think fourth place finish by Harry is and was their best ever and a repeat of that is highly unlikely. Let’s face it, nowadays all the teams in the top four are title contenders, so how can Spurs dream of Champions League football while they are not ready to push for the title. Am not sure why Spurs faithfuls were left disappointed last season, I think sixth place finish is a good one for the Lilywhites. Of all the teams that finished above them last season, only Everton look vulnerable of their position. Let’s not forget that Manchester United finished below Spurs ,so if Red devils rediscover their mojo, again Spurs will have to settle for a sixth place finish. Spurs have failed to attract top class talents and that’s why they will always struggle to make it to the top four. Angel Di Maria publicly stated that it hurts to be linked with Spurs when you feel you are playing well for your team.
If you have been observant, those good players who sign for Spurs always try to use the team as a stepping stone to gain visibility across Europe. The Modrics, the Lloris, Vertoghens and so on. Am pretty sure Eriksen is also doing the same. You can’t blame them at all. Soldado, Lamela and Co were trying to do the same although it hasn’t worked out. Even Poch himself is following that path. Those players don’t really care of “the Spurs way” they care more about their futures. Or it’s because they know it’s a fallacy. Advice to Spurs, follow your vision and stay true to it if at all it exists. I overheard they want O’shea, Liverpool is not interested so I doubt they’ll bid…charming of Spurs isn’t it? #COYS

Your writing sucks ("Are they even serious!!" - nice) and your points are made up of opinions and made-up theories made on every other Liverpool blog over the past three seasons.
ReplyDeleteDo you people actually, truly, honestly think that a Premier League club like Tottenham Hotspur is purely buying players based on Youtube videos and checking who you guys are interested in on newsnow? You really think you're the only team scouting these players? Just because you've got 'Mr FM 2014' in charge you suddenly think you're a step above everyone else in the transfer market? You're having a laugh mate.
You've got no sources, no concrete evidence, no real point, you're just regurgitating what has already been pointlessly said. Who even are you?
Liverpool had a good season (out of the blue), they were exciting to watch and I enjoyed watching them have a good go. But thank god you guys didn't win it, because even for finishing second there's a large section of your support (including you) embarrassing yourselves as you now think you're a bunch of billy big bollocks boys again.
Not every Spurs fan buys in to this "Spurs way" thing, it's just something the media have used when trying to over-compensate for a lack of story. Also we all know Levy is an idiot, and we all know there are bigger clubs out there than Tottenham. But how much did you spend on Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing again? How long do you think you'll keep Suarez for? How are you going to cope this season with European football back on the agenda, something you've missed for three very long years? That should be interesting.
Obviously he was joking about the YouTube part, he knows well that big clubs do have international scouts
DeletePerennial achievers? That would be you, wouldn't it? "Come back when you've won 18“, "King Kenny is back, now you'll see the difference", and more recently, "we'll be champions come May". Just a pointless article from another pointless Liverpool fan who, after one good season, can no longer see how pointless your team are.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pile of arrant, arrogant nonsense.
ReplyDeleteTry to understand this, as it is really simple: Spurs nearly went to the wall in the early nineties, and have spent the period since trying to get back into the position they always were - ONE OF THE BIG FIVE clubs in English football. Up to that point, Spurs had won one less trophy than Arse*al, and, I think, about the same as United. You could quibble about the prestige of the various trophies (yeah, we know, Spurs were always a 'Cup Team'), but, as a for instance, Spurs had won three top European honours (i.e. not the Inter-Italian-Moped-Toto Cup) to United's one and Arsen*l's none (that does read NONE, by the way) - and now, in the intervening period when Spurs nearly ceased to trade and have slowly been clawing their way back ever since, Arsd*al have won one top European Honour (yes, that does read ONE). So, Spurs lost some ground, in terms of trophies won, while going through a horrible period - is that what you are your whole argument on? Wow, you must have really been frantic waiting for Liverpool to have a good season while Spurs had a bad one, having finishing the last four seasons above Liverpool, just so you could make a post like this. Are you THAT certain that last season is going to be replicated by Liverpool and Spurs AREN'T going to have a better season? And, by the way, while bedding in seven overseas players, six of whom were under 25 at point of signing, and swapping Head Coach mid season (with one coming in who had zero managerial experience) Spurs still managed to accrue 69 points. Maybe last season was a bit of a one step backward, two steps forward season, just like when Spurs bought Bale, Modric and Kaboul and sold their headline player - did you consider that before spouting this pathetic, patronising rubbish.
This is the type of crap that has made a lot of Spurs fans (and others), myself included, switch from having a huge amount of respect for Liverpool and their achievements, and even cheering them on in Istanbul, to thoroughly despising the club and the fans, and being delirious with joy that one of the oil clubs (who we should by rights be hating and wanting to win nothing) pipped you to the league last season. Pathetic, patronising idiot! My whole aspiration for next season is not to win things but to finish above Liverpool so we can ram idiotic nonsense like this down your arrogant, patronising throats!
Liverpool would have sold suarez last summer if the right bid had come in but everyone was scared of his toxic reputation. And those scousers who are hailing his name now wanted him sacked for his racism and biting "bringing the club into disrepute" . And booed every move that Henderson makes. And called for Rodgers to be sacked. The fact is that Spurs and Liverpool are shopping in the same sector of the transfer market.....not the £30m star (except Carroll...suckers) and not the £5m bargain. So we will be scouting the same players. Many of whom would rather live inLondon than Liverpool. And dont forget the star purchases Liverpool have made recently ....Coates Aspas Alberto ilori sakho. Great players eh?
ReplyDeleteOh dear, where to begin...
ReplyDeleteFirst up, somewhere in there, you have a point. We haven't been successful for a long time and we've never dominated the national game, agreed. But that doesn't stop us from having a tradition of playing attacking football or hoping we can build the club to compete with the biggest sides in the country.
The funny thing about your article, aside from using newsnow for research, is that it's a credit to our growth under Levy that you've wasted your time on this petty piece. Liverpool fans used to be reasonable but a few years in the wilderness and one season back in the top 4 and suddenly you're dishing it out like champions? It might be worth waiting to see how you react to Utd, Arsenal & Chelsea spending £100m to improve or Real Madrid making a serious offer for Suarez.
This is the sort of article written by rival fans, it's something of a compliment really.
oh dear, bang goes your writing career, displaying nothing but personal agenda. Good luck in your bin man job you seem to have an affinity for trash
ReplyDeleteThe Liverpool way being nicking hub caps whilst being in possession of a shell suit and a dubious hair style? Get a life.........it is not against FA rules to bid for anyone Liverpool are interested in. We have a vision of how we want spurs to play but they seldom achieve it...what is wrong about that? Personally ,I always had a soft spot for Liverpool, based on their successful runs in europe but in recent years that has worn away since Saurez arrived and the club's continuing inability to realise that the man is poison. Even the club captain Gerrard was captured on video assaulting someone and then being cleared by a LOCAL jury. These things leave a bad taste in the mouth but then that is the Liverpool way.
ReplyDeleteIncredible article from a newly buoyed Liverpool fan. Fantastic. Did you see Spurs were interested in Suarez before the Liverpool spies picked up on the bat signals. Or indeed that Sterling was on our radar some 5 years ago as a kid. Or even more so - we offered for Brendan Rodgers before he signed for Liverpool! GASP! Espionage. Idiotic. Spurs and Liverpool work on the same sort of budget - looking at the same sort of calibre of player. Obviously there will be some overlaps. Should Spurs fans lose their shit because Dzeko went to City? Or as mentioned Suarez to Liverpool? No. When it comes down to it. For one reason or another a club pulls out of the race. Be it financial or second thoughts. Liverpool bidding on a player does not give them divine right of passage for *insert name here. And Tottenham then bidding on a player does not nullify Liverpool. So. Liverpool fan. Get off your recently acquired (but always used) high horse.
ReplyDeleteliverpool always try to poach our transfer targets!! there, i can do it too!!
ReplyDeleteAs a Spurs fan, let me explain.
ReplyDeleteActually, no. You wouldn't understand. Let's just say, it's not a 'media thing'.
It's based upon values, not win at all costs. Take a look at Suarez. Get it?
What a truly pathetic piece of writing. Is the author a 12-year old child? Dreadful use of English. Poor grasp of the facts.
ReplyDeleteComplete tripe! I'm ashamed to call myself a fellow liverpudlian!!!
Hahahaha come on guys stop with the sensible, thought out responses, the "writer" is obviously a kid, or a retard, or maybe a retarded kid. I have to say though, Liverpool used to be my second team but I have come to loath them in recent seasons.
ReplyDeleteOption 1: You are an idiot
ReplyDeleteOption 2: You are a clever genius. You need some hits to your website, so write some stuff about Spurs that gets noticed on newsnow. All the Spurs supporters visit, and mission accomplished
Option 3: You really think like this. In which case most of the above comments are valid. Liverpool have a great season, and suddenly you reckon you are great. The only player Liverpool was directly in for was Siggy. The rest was just players being linked. If Liverpool or Spurs got every player they were linked with, you would have 100s of players. Spurs were in for Mata, Oscar and Willian. Chelsea got them. We don't go on about Chelsea not having scouts etc etc. As for the Spurs way, you miss out that Spurs fans also know that the Spurs way is to have lots of off field dramas, to sack our managers, to expect good football, and to see many of our best players sold off. But you are not a Spurs fan, so you would not know that.
Am sure when the writer states that Spurs scout via Youtube, he really doesn't mean that. What he's trying to say is that the Scousers do get disappointed when you're interested in their targets. About the Spurs way, I think it's somehow true, Spurs fans don't loose your cool, I am a Leeds fan and I think you're overreacting
ReplyDeleteLiverpool were my 2nd team but its writers and fans like you that put me off looserpuddle. Writer = Nob head
ReplyDeleteHahaha as a Gooner I like it when Spurs are told the truth,You are commenting as if you're in the top five, respect the teams above you and move on. I love this article
ReplyDeleteThe writer is a genius, it was only a matter of time before an article like that was posted, truth be told. Focus on the Europa league, the winner gets Champions league football. #YNWA
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to write a similar article. Good timing though, Am sure Di Maria totally agrees. The Lilywhites will be quick to defend the Spurs way and their transfer policy, but funny enough, no one has commented on the club's inability to attract top class talent. Even Sherwood said that the club was being unrealistic aiming for top four.
ReplyDeleteAs a Spurs fan, I disagree with the article although there is some truth in it. The spurs way, am so sick and tired of hearing it. It doesn't exist. Obviously he was making fun of us with the YouTube thing, Hopefully next season we can prove the Scousers wrong. Overall, Great article for the Spurs haterz, am pretty sure they're rereading it with smiles on their faces. Let's prove them wrong next season #COYS
ReplyDeleteLet me speak from a neutral point of view, I think Spurs are overreacting, I have read through all your comments. Before I be quick to pass judgement, I'd love to read a response article from spurs "the view from White Hart Lane" yeah, instead of defending yourselves hard. To some extent your mode of defence tends to make us agree with the writer. I think he's a genius. He knew you lillywhites will overreact the most so he decided to attack you people. So the more you comment the more things are going his way. Come on you Spurs, how the hell do you think that the writer doesn't know you've got scouts worldwide? He seems to have calculated his move. I personally I have no problem with his writing, I think it's interesting and humorous too. For those who can't understand the language, wait for Pochettino's press conference. Where I disagree with him, is where he dismisses the tofees, Martinez boys can still finish above Tottenham. But again, Tottenham's failures should not be a reason for opposition rivals to gloat, take not of that.
ReplyDeleteYou forgot some things too.
ReplyDelete1 . Spurs are in dreamland, they wanted Carlo Ancelotti a champions league winning manager, hahaha
2 . Louis van Gaal is a Spurs fan, but he snubbed them to go to United, he knows there's a problem with them
3.Wilshere asked, What do you think of Tottenham? shit What do you think of Shit? Tottenham
4 . Liverpool and City gave Spurs a home and away routing, when was the last time Spurs did that?
Hahaha the YouTube part, that's funny LOL
