Are Liverpool Buying Everybody?

Perhaps I’m old-fashioned or just a complete Luddite but I’m struggling to come to terms with aspects of the various website rumours that seem to imply that, even outside of the transfer window, Liverpool are set to announce the signing of, at the latest estimate, nine or ten world super-stars at a combined transfer cost of something slightly south of Britain’s national debt and with these so-called superstars allegedly demanding huge, eye-watering salaries of up to £250,000 per WEEK! That is each, not the combined wage bill!
Now, call me old misery guts if you wish but I’d be vomiting if Liverpool signed Radamel Falcao, who has failed spectacularly at United, or anybody else on this planet or any of the other mounds of rock circling our sun or the one in the next galaxy! For that sort of money we’d want Messi and, let’s be realistic, that is not going to happen.
These so-called experts who reckon we’ve got this player or that player ‘in the bag’ keep using words like ‘sensational’, ‘brilliant’ or ‘exceptional’ to describe each and every player who they think might amble into the home dressing room but the reality is that few, if any, of them will ever see the traditional old decor they have there . . . because we won’t be signing them!
The number of times we’ve been linked with half of the Real Madrid team or the Barcelona team is getting pretty boring now. According to the ‘experts’ most of our team could have Eastern European names if the players ‘about to sign for us’ actually put pen to paper.
Yes, we urgently need new players but if we don’t get into the Champion’s League we’ll be buying at the Aldi-end of the shopping mall again so let’s rule out £45m deals for now until we see if Raheem Sterling is staying or going (I suspect the latter) and see just how much we can get by off-loading players we don’t need and who aren’t good enough for this club. Think along the lines of Mohican haircuts and you might get my drift!
If it was me with the old cheque-book in my clammy mitts I think I’d go for that Memphis Depay, who is seemingly tearing the trees up at his current club, and who should cost about £20m, Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim for another twenty million and Luciano Vietto from Villarreal for whatever it costs! I’ve watched video footage of that guy and his movement, pace and ability to go either way is simply superb. He is one for the future!
Even without selling anybody we SHOULD be able to cobble together that trio and then we’d never need to worry about our dreadful record of making hardly any chances per game . . . which is becoming the norm on current form.
I don’t know too much about that Konopylianka guy (and I almost certainly can’t spell his name) but would we want him and Markovic in the same squad?
If we have to sell Raheem Sterling then that would open the door for a couple of excellent players in midfield or at the back but the world isn’t exactly full of top quality centre backs as we speak and, as I’ve already mentioned, if we aren’t in the Champion’s League the few really top ones who might be available wouldn’t give us a second glance. The only thing I’m sure about is that if he isn’t happy then we‘ve got to get rid as his ego just might be getting out of control and he is NOT irreplaceable even though he is one Hell of a good player! Give us £55m for him and I think we could replace him quite adequately with a couple of the above-mentioned players and still giving us a couple of quid left in the bank to give me one of those boxes to watch from!
In the meantime, I’ll just read that we are buying – already agreed, most of them, apparently – most of the footballing world’s mega-stars and paying them handsomely! The world has gone mad . . . or I have! If we sign Falcao for £40m+, plus a wage of £250,000 per WEEK for fifty-two weeks of the year and not the eight weeks he’s injury free and available to sit on the bench, then I’m gonna feel very, very let down by the people in control of the club I love!
