Liverpool vs. Manchester United – e-Football Preview

Always a huge game in the football calendar – this weekend’s meeting of the two British heavyweights has added significance as the race for a top 4 finish heats up.

A real “6-pointer” the match at Anfield this Sunday could see Liverpool go a point ahead of rivals United and knock them out the Champions League places. However, if the Red Devils are triumphant, they could put real breathing space between themselves and the other teams below them in the hunt for European football next season, and even challenge for as high as second place.

Liverpool have been in the form of their life since losing 3-0 at Old Trafford in December, picking up 33 points from the last 39 available. Louis van Gaal’s men have been less impressive but put in a revitalised performance last weekend in another crucial match against top 4 contenders Tottenham.

Lucas Leiva returned to training this week for Liverpool, after a groin problem had ruled him out for 6 weeks and striker Mario Balotelli has recovered from the illness which saw him miss Monday’s clash at the Liberty. Ibe, Flanagan and Enrique are still sidelined.

Angel Di Maria is back from suspension and available for United, however Jonny Evans is still serving his 6 game ban for spitting. Robin van Persie is ruled out through injury (ankle) and defenders Luke Shaw (hamstring) and Marcos Rojo (groin) are also doubts.

Probable starting XI - Liverpool: Mignolet, Can, Skrtel, Sakho, Markovic, Henderson (C), Allen, Moreno, Sterling, Coutinho, Sturridge.

Probable starting XI – United: De Gea, Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Blind, Carrick, Herrera, Fellaini, Mata, Rooney (C), Young.
