Simply Unacceptable From Liverpool.....Again, But Good Luck To The Villa

Well, no matter how many times I throw the noose over the rafters my wife rips it down before I can get it over my head! Much more of this drivel and I’m off to play on a railway line somewhere!
The manager has got serious questions to answer, such as why did we have three different formations in the first half alone? Why do we not have any creativity in the team other than Coutinho and, sometimes, Sterling? Are we going to start next season with a five-foot-six-inch striker and only ‘deadly’ Lambert, Borini and Balotelli in reserve? No creativity and no goal threat! Yet again, Sturridge was watching from the stands or at home on telly!
Once Villa went in front, and good luck to them in the Final, we hardly created a chance other than a Gerrard header and the Balotelli one that was wrongly chalked off for offside. On that one the Villa defence had more-or-less stopped by then so I don’t know if he would have scored had they carried on playing?
I have to ask, did anybody notice Henderson playing? Did Allen do anything? Did Stevie G do anything? They may have ambled forward to take free kicks, corners, etc., but the only midfielders who looked as if they had a right to be on the pitch most certainly did NOT wear yellow shirts. Fabian Delph, long rumoured to be a Liverpool target until signing a new Villa contract, was the best player on view.
If our manager can’t get a physical presence up front, one that can play more than eight games a season, this rubbish is going to be haunting us next year as well. Our new ‘saviour’, Henderson, hasn’t done enough to get into our team recently, let alone be the new captain. Is he currently meant to be an attacking midfielder, a defensive midfielder – one of about four currently rumoured to be playing – or is he just meant to be on the periphery of it all? If that is the case, I apologise, he’s a master at looking as if he hasn’t got a clue what he’s doing or where he is supposed to be on the pitch!!
Allen and Lucas (the latter not playing today) are normally as invisible as Henderson was today and if we can’t find ONE top, top midfielder to play the defensive aspect of the team – instead of having two doing it together – badly – what hope is there for us? For too long we’ve had players in midfield simply go ‘missing’, in twos and threes, and we simply cannot continue allowing Henderson, Lucas and Allen to do that game after game. It’s sometimes the eight of Liverpool versus the ten of the other team!
Do we have anybody with the attacking instinct, other than Coutinho, that can make chances on a regular basis? Sorry, the answer is NO!
Sterling looks as if he’s almost given up as he’s often very isolated up front or on the wing, on his lonesome, we’ve got nobody in a central striker position when we’ve got the ball and, even when we have, the guy who, by accident, appears there is about a foot shorter than the nearest defender.
Even Villa’s first goal was one the keeper could have saved had he stretched.
No, I’m a fan of the manager but these issues are still there after a long, long season and he seems to be incapable of even admitting we’ve got a problem. Why can’t he stick with one system instead of seeking to find one, with numerous positional changes per game, using players who are almost certain to be invisible no matter what is asked of them? We won’t find a system capable of making these poor players look good, believe me, even though the manager might decide to put another two into the defensive midfield role – making about five in that one bit of the pitch – before he admits that the players we have for that role aren’t good enough! Many have got to go, end of story!
I can accept defeat when we play okay – and, again, good luck to the Villa – but that was mainly unacceptable . . . with problems that have been there all season reappearing for the umpteenth time!
When a manager seems oblivious to the weaknesses in the team, thinking that moving very average players around the pitch in bizarre formational changes might just make a difference, I have to doubt his ability at this level. Is Klopp still available, the Liverpool-supporting Klopp?
Anybody who has read my articles in recent months knows that I keep on about these same issues and nothing ever improves. Obviously, my direct line to Mr Rodgers isn’t working! Am I right, or is he?
Currently, I’d have Skrtel, Moreno, Can (in midfield, not defence), Sterling and Coutinho in my team, the rest of them aren’t good enough, or don’t play often enough to be considered.
Yet again, I’ve got to face the laughing United and City fans, who will be lined up waiting for me at work . . . let’s try that noose one more time . . .
