Fer went on to make 11 appearances with the Swans, setting up two goals in the process and grabbing the attention of manager Francesco Guidilin, who later admitted he didn't know much about the player. It now seems that the Swans boss wants to make Fer a regular figure in the middle of the park, however this move would bring quite a few things into question.
Firstly, would Swansea still be in for Joe Allen if Fer was signed? Allen has had stand out performances at the Euros and attracted the attention of clubs like Leicester and Southampton. His consistently high performances may see his price tag rise above the original £10 million evaluation.
Secondly, what does future hold for the current Swansea midfield? Players like Jack Cork, Ki Sung-Yung, and Leon Briton have generally been solid servants in the midfield. A player like Leroy Fer wouldn't be much of an upgrade on these names. It would also put the future of Swansea's youngsters into question. How will the likes of Matt Grimes, Jay Fulton, and Adam King be able to push their way into the starting 11?
There are many questions to be asked of Swansea's midfield and the addition of Leroy Fer might not be the answer that fans are looking for.
