I may well be upsetting some Liverpool fans, but I have compiled a list of players, who I believe Liverpool have a genuine chance of getting and more importantly will improve the playing staff at the club.

Liverpool do not have unlimited funds, and indeed there are a number of players in that club who need to be offloaded. So players such as Vidal, Pogba, Benzema and Di Maria etc, players with big profiles I just cannot see coming to Liverpool in its present state, especially with no Champions League football.

Players I think they need are in the following positions:

Goalkeeper, right back, centre back, midfield and attackers (which in my opinion, is same position they were in last summer). So starting by goalkeeper, will pick my choice and 2 possible alternatives.

Goalkeeper.

Mignolet is number one choice, and they seem to have believe in the player, he needs competition for the shirt, so keep Mignolet on his toes, which Brad Jones could not do.

Been links with Petr Cech and Asmir Begovic, but can see neither coming to Liverpool. My choice would be David Marshall of Cardiff City. He was outstanding for Cardiff season before last, and I am amazed a premiership club has not snapped him up. Cardiff need the money and have a very able back up in Simon Moore, so for me the Scottish international would be real competition to Mignolet and would not cost the earth.

Possible alternatives: Adam Bogdan and Robert Green.

Right back.

Glen Johnson is off to pastures new and Jon Flanagan is going to be out for 9 months, few players have been linked with Liverpool in this position, however for me, Liverpool need a right back who first and foremost can defend and also would like one with a bit of height to help on set pieces as Liverpool need more aerial power, the player I would look to is Carl Jenkinson from Arsenal. The player has been on loan at West Ham this season and has been excellent, can defend and also has a bit of pace, Arsenal may want £10 million or more, but I would do the deal.

Possible alternatives: Martin Montoya and Sam Byram.

Centre Back.

If Liverpool are going to rely on Lovren and Sakho as the left sided centre back then Skrtel needs some support on the right hand side, for me, Liverpool lack leaders and a player at the back who gives it his all and defends with pride and not cost the earth would be Michael Dawson from Hull City. Dawson was liked by Spurs fans and in my opinion was unlucky to be sold. I like his attitude, and would be happy to initially be back up with every chance to break into the side performances allowing.

Possible alternatives: Simon Kjaer and James Chester

Defensive Midfield

Rumours that Lucas could be on his way out of Anfield, so this being the case a defensive minded midfielder is needed. For me a player I feel they have a chance at is Asier Illramendi from Real Madrid. The player has said wants to stay at Madrid, but is not getting much game time and I can see Madrid selling if right offer comes in. Illramendi has great range of passing, dictates play well and can put his foot in. Only 25 years old, and a player who could have a real impact at Liverpool.

Possible alternatives: Morgan Schneiderlin and Cheik Tiote

Midfield

Another midfielder is needed at the club, with Henderson, Can, Allen and maybe one or two others. For me, they need a midfielder who can potentially play in a three man midfield, have versatility and energy. For me, a player who is available and would fit the bill perfectly would be James Milner. England international, would be a fan favorite at Liverpool with his whole hearted displays and total commitment, and would compliment the midfield perfectly.

Possible alternatives: Moussa Sissoko and Will Hughes
Moussa Sissoko
Striker

With Sturridge and his injury record you need someone in who is likely to play a lot of games and lead the line as main focal point and score goals. Have to think Borini, Balotelli and Lambert are off elsewhere. Origi and Sinclair are untested. For me, Liverpool have to splash money here and the player I think realistically they could get is Carlos Bacca from Sevilla, Bacca can score goals, hold it up and can stretch defenders behind. Would be an signing of intention. Christian Benteke has been mentioned, and is a good player, but in my opinion, his strength is crosses coming in from out wide and that's not a strength of Liverpool, also at a rumoured price of £32 million, is way over priced, better value elsewhere.

Possible alternatives: Jamie Vardy and Charlie Austin

Striker/Winger

If Sterling leaves, then I would look to get someone in who has a goal or two in them but also someone with bit of pace/trickery, and a few goals in them. For me I would go for Yannick Bolasie from Crystal Palace. He showed me a lot more to his game than I thought when Palace did a number on Liverpool at Anfield when he played a central attacking role, rather than the winger I have seen in the past. Looks a real player, and available for around £20 million, which should be available after sale of Sterling.

Possible alternatives: Danny Ings and Luciano Vietto.

  1. If you are talking about James Chester and Jamie Vardy as being worthy of playing for Liverpool FC you need to seriously look at your alcohol intake!!! Mind you, with us possibly being interested in signing an ageing and slow Yaya Toure - on a quarter of a million pounds per week - and Radamel Falcao - the United failure on £280,000 per week - anything is possible as our decline carries on apace. Until we get rid of the likes of Balotelli, Lambert, Borini, Toure, Sakho and a few others we ain't going anywhere but down, as a club. Would any of them get into the squads at United, City, Arsenal or Chelsea? No, so why do we keep them?
