Preview: Sheffield United take on Walsall
Article by Sam Attrap
The Blades won their last game away at Bristol City, courtesy of a fortuitous own goal. But it was a convincing defensive display that Nigel Clough’s side will hope to build on when Walsall visit Bramall Lane tonight.
The first away win of the season at Ashton Gate saw leading scorer Harry Maguire pick up his fifth booking of the season so will, ironically, leave a hole at the back as he serves his one game ban – expect Matt Hill to take his place.
Shaun Miller and Jose Baxter will be pushing for starts after recent promising performances. Miller was rested against Bristol City after returning from a 10 month spell on the side-lines.
Baxter is fighting for a place in a Blades side swamped with central midfielders, but has a proven pedigree at this level and could start ahead of Connor Coady and be pushed out wide. Alternatively, Stephen McGinn may drop to the bench as Nigel Clough has previously alluded to slight fitness concerns, but United have won four in four with McGinn in the starting XI and his set pieces could prove crucial.
Others pushing for starts include Florent Cuvelier, Jamie Murphy and Ryan Flynn but do not expect Nigel Clough to make too many alterations.
Walsall appear to have no new injury worries in a side that includes former Blade, Andy Taylor.
Walsall have struggled at Bramall Lane historically and the Blades have looked sterner opposition of late, so it could end up being another tough day for the Saddlers. Although, it will be interesting to see how United cope without Harry Maguire, expect a tight game.
Predicted Line-up
Predicted Score
Blades 1 – 0 Saddlers
