Leeds Target Arsenal Starlet on Loan
Article by Leeds Correspondent Alex Schroeter
Leeds United have shown an interest in a number of young Arsenal players this season, previously Serge Gnabry, but most recently Thomas Eisfeld.
Thomas Eisfeld is a 20 year old, German attacking midfielder. Arsenal signed him from Borussia Dortmund for £475,000. He has a very elegant style of play, comparable with former Arsenal player Robert Pires with a coolness in front of goal, which he showed when he scored his first competitive goal for the club against West Brom in the Capital One Cup. Despite a promising start to the season, Arsenal’s exit from the Capital One Cup may mean very little chance of first team football. As a result of this, Leeds should be more confident in requiring the services of Eisfeld than in our rather more ambitious effort to acquire his compatriot, Gnabry.

With Leeds suddenly hitting a bit of form in recent weeks, they have seemingly become play-off contenders, so the addition of Eisfeld would give McDermott more quality in an area where we have at times lacked quality and incision, perhaps with the exception of McCormack. Despite this being yet another Leeds loan signing, it is an encouraging sign of where Brian wants to take us, encouraging the use of talented young, hungry players rather than older players who fail to add much additional quality to our squad.
As well as the potential signing of Eisfeld, Leeds development squad coach Neil Redfearn has spoken of his happiness with trialist and ex-Aston Villa trainee, Richard Bryan. The 20 year old defender has trained and played impressively with our development squad and appears to have earned the opportunity to join on a permanent basis. Since the exits of Charlie Taylor and Ross Killock on loan, Neil’s squad has been light at the back and said that “He’s got something going for him and he’s something to work with”. He also said that “He’s got a great attitude, he knows his position and he’s an athlete, very competitive”.
If we sign both, or even just one of these two young players they will have a positive effect as we could nurture Bryan into a player capable of playing for our first team whereas Eisfeld has the quality to make an instant impact for us in order to seriously contend for promotion back to the Premier League.

IMO. Thomas Eisfield needs more playing time. Instead of his injury record, he will be very good player. Wenger saw potential on him
