Psycho returns but the jury is out!

Since I last wrote, the whole club was in turmoil, we had a owner who seemed to be losing his way, promising much and delivering zilch. In fact the only person who seemed to say he wanted the managers job was Peter Reid! We were like a lost child. However all of a sudden the man who loves and has dedicated himself emotionally to this child arguably more than any other returns to collect the sobbing mess. That man is Stuart Pearce. Welcome back Psycho we have missed you.

Everything in my heart loves this appointment. Pearce does not need to reiterate he loves this club. We are safe in the knowledge there are no hidden agendas or vengeance. Unlike Mr Davies he is black and white. He doesn’t just want to do well for self publication, like every other fan he wants to see Forest do well. This is a man that when he was Man City manager preparing for his 3 o’clock kick off rang Des Walker to say I hope we beat Derby today. Man City were not playing Derby, Forest were. I for one cannot wait for the reception this man will receive on his return to the club.

His appointment has brought positivity back to this club and importantly for this once giant of English football, nostalgia and happy memories of past triumphs. Fawaz has certainly pulled off a desperately desired, positive piece of PR for this club. Pearce is not just a Forest legend he is an England legend! If Forest get back to the promised land of Premiership football, it will be even sweeter that a fan representing the fans will be at the helm and forefront of Forest in the highest league. If Pearce can ensure imitation of his never say die attitude in his players, ensuring they leave everything on the pitch, I am sure this team can go far. These are all comments from my heart but why is my head still unsure?

The first concern that comes in to my head is the quote ‘history repeats itself because nobody listens. Please correct me if I am wrong but I can only think of one club legend who has taken the reins at their old club and been a success, which is Kenny Dalglish first time around, and even then we know what happened second time round, signing Downing for 20 million sums it up. Shearer did not have the desired effect at Newcastle and the most recent example Sherwood is not pulling up trees at Spurs currently.

Additionally great players do not necessarily translate to great managers. Roy Keane is a good comparison to Pearce, they had many similar attributes as players but as Alex Ferguson says Keane knows as much as any other how difficult management is. Pearce also has a great playing CV but so far has very little he can boast about on his management CV. However, saying that it can be argued that Pearce is pretty unproven in management, he has only ever had one club job. Nevertheless it could also be counter argued that Forest should not be considering at this time a manager with little club experience. However Pearce has shown he has the temperament to manage in the pressure cooker of international football and these experiences could be used for the good of the team.

Overall, I think there could have been far worse appointments for this club and a lot can be said for the positivity which is currently emanating from the corridors of the City Ground. The fans will certainly get behind him and I am sure we can ride on the crest of the wave of positivity and hit the ground running. However for many of us Psycho still needs to prove that the passionate leader we all saw on the pitch at the City Ground, can replicate these attribute and achievements standing on the dugout. If he can this could be a match made in heaven, if not he will just be further proof to the old adage ‘history repeats itself because nobody listens’. The jury is out.

Come on Psycho’s Red and White Army!
