On The Pitch

18 April – Bristol Academy 0-2 Chelsea Ladies. Two goals from Japan International Yuki Ogimi ensured that the ladies campaign got off to a winning start against Bristol Academy on Friday.

18 April – Arsenal Youth 0-1 Chelsea Youth. Chelsea’s youngsters qualified for their third consecutive FA Youth Cup Final with a 1-0 victory against Arsenal at The Emirates, to complete a 3-1 aggregate victory. The only goal was scored by Charlie Colkett after 18 minutes. They will now face Fulham in a two-legged final. The first leg will be held on 28 April at Craven Cottage, with the second leg at Stamford Bridge on Monday 5 May.

19 April – Chelsea 1-2 Sunderland. Chelsea suffered a potentially fatal blow to their title aspirations with a shock 1-2 home defeat to bottom of the table Sunderland, so ending Jose Mourinho’s proud 77 match unbeaten league record at Stamford Bridge. Samuel Eto’o put Chelsea ahead after just 12 minutes. The Blues lead was short-lived, as Connor Wickham netted from close range after Mark Schwarzer had failed to hold a long range shot by Marcos Alonso. Fabio Borini netted the winner for The Black Cats from the penalty spot 8 minutes from time, after Cesar Azpilicueta was harshly adjudged to have fouled Jozy Altidore.

19 April – Chelsea U21’s 4-2 West Bromwich Albion U21’s. The Under 21’s secured their place in the end of season Play-offs, defeating West Bromwich Albion in an entertaining match at Cobham. Lewis Baker added two more goals to his tally, with Izzy Brown and Kasey Palmer adding one goal apiece.

20 April – Chelsea Ladies 0-0 Liverpool Ladies. Chelsea Ladies continued their unbeaten start to their campaign with a goalless draw against the traditionally strong Liverpool Ladies side.

22 April – Arsenal U21’s 1-2 Chelsea U21’s. The Under 21’s completed a successful week, coming from behind to record a 2-1 victory at The Emirates, courtesy of another stunning goal from the ever-improving Lewis Baker, and a late winner from John Swift.

22 April – Atletico Madrid 0-0 Chelsea. Chelsea earned a hard-fought and deserved draw in the Vicente Calderon stadium. Chelsea’s defensive line-up was designed to stifle their opponents, and despite an early injury to Petr Cech and a further injury to Captain John Terry, they generally nullified the attacking threat of the home side. The tie now moves to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, with Chelsea potentially 90 minutes from a third successive European Final.
