QPR v Millwall - e-Football Review
Article by e-QPR Correspondent Jeff Mayakovsky
We met early at our usual pub, in the distance was the sound of of ambulance and police sirens. Millwall were up our way and behaving in their usual manner. They were under the usual supervision of the Met. Their chants ringing around the neighbourhood and camped in Belushi's with the police keeping a close eye on them.
Walking down the Uxbridge road it seemed less busy then usual and there were a few spotters out for Millwall on their mobiles treating today's match like a military operation, though the reality is that very little trouble occurs unless you go looking for it.
They have tried over the years to change the image into a family club some have claimed, but there is a sizeable minority who have resisted change and glory in their negative image.
I digress, we did not have much to play for, other then to build a momentum for the play offs. It seemed that Millwall did not know how to take their chances in the final third of the field. They are in a fight against relegation and have recently pulled themselves out of the bottom three.
The match had all the makings of a nil nil draw until the second half when the handball happened. There was loads of confusion, the person next to me thought it was a free kick, but I thought it was definitely in the area. The ref gave a penalty and Charlie Austen placed the ball on the spot, the crowd held their breath and waited as Charlie placed it to the left of the goalkeeper.
That seemed to be the end of the match. Rangers fans sang abuse at Millwall only to have it all thrown back in their faces in injury time when Green palmed a Malone shot into his own net.
Shit we should of won, but then Millwall were playing for their own survival and ultimately showed enough spirit to get a draw.
