Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has confirmed that he has signed for LA Galaxy on an 18-month deal. Gerrard will move to the MLS club in July.
On the move Gerrard said "The time's right for myself and my family for the change, for the fresh challenge. One of the reasons why I chose the LA Galaxy was because of the success they've had recently."
Gerrard has enjoyed a successful career with the Reds since making his senior debut in 1998. His 16 years at Anfield have seen him win the Champions League, UEFA Cup, 2 FA Cups and 3 League Cups.
It is likely that the midfielder will pass the 700 appearances barrier for Liverpool. He currently sits third for all-time club appearances behind only Ian Callaghan and Jamie Carragher. Gerrard also sits 5th in Liverpool's all-time record goalscorers with 184 club goals.
Gerrard enjoyed a long international career appearing for England on 114 occasions, third on the all-time record England appearances behind just Peter Shilton and David Beckham. He also captained his country 38 times.
Recently Gerrard admitted that if Liverpool had offered him a new contract in pre-season he would have signed it. The player LA Galaxy will be acquiring is far from finished as he proved in Liverpool's recent victory over AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup third round after scoring both of Liverpool's goals in a man of the match performance.
What's Liverpool's loss is most definitely Galaxy's gain.
