Arda Turan has decided to join Barcelona for 24 million pounds, after weeks of speculation linked him to at least five new clubs, with majority of them falling in the Premier League. However, Turan cannot play until January due to Barcelona’s transfer ban.
Pedro had earlier expressed his intentions of staying at Barcelona. But that was before Turan’s signing was announced. Chelsea and Arsenal have been targeting Pedro, and with Turan arriving Pedro could well change his mind.
Manchester United are joining the race to sign Stoke City keeper Asmir Begovic, who has been Chelsea’s long term target.
Chelsea have meanwhile made a presentation to Wembley Stadium’s board and want to play at the national stadium for three seasons, beginning from the 2017-18 season onwards. This is being done in order to complete expansion plans for Stamford Bridge, for which serious talks have been taking place since the past couple of seasons. Chelsea are ready to offer 11 million a year with the intention to make Wembley their temporary home.
Finally, coming to the big news of the day, Jose Mourinho has agreed a new four year deal with Chelsea for the same 8.5 million salary, despite being offered a massive raise. Mourinho will now stay with Chelsea until the end of the 2018-19 season, unless of course sacked earlier.
