Italian Serie A Round Up:
Article by Daniel Pisani
Another interesting week for the Serie A as we saw AC Milan struggle but finally win, Inter stumbled at Cagliari, AS Roma continue to dominate, Juventus figuring out how to win more arm wrestles and Napoli over powering Genoa.
This morning Fiorentina and Parma rounded up the fixtures playing out a 2-2 draw with Parma scoring the equaliser in the 90th minute.
Inter Milan played against Cagliari on a water logged pitch which made the occasion interesting and the match less skillful than what it should have been. Naingolan was the smartest player constantly showing off his skills in keeping the ball above the water as if he was playing Beach Football. The match eventually ended 1-1.
Sassuolo did very well against Lazio in their 2-2 draw and seemed to be getting back to their feet after the 7-0 loss at the hands of Inter. They travelled to Naples and secured a point and returned home to keep Lazio to a point. Maybe in the next game against a lesser side they can manage 3 points.
UEFA Champions League:
Juventus are facing a very frustrating time at the moment as they facing sides that don’t necessarily want to play football but instead put 11 players behind the ball and counter attack or rely on set pieces to get on the board. Juve are used to fast flowing one touch style of play but teams have figured them out and just take a chance on playing ultra defensive. Juve play Galatasaray this week in the UCL so hopefully Mancini’s men can attack and play their own football and maybe it will free up the likes of Vidal, Pogba and Tevez to show us the one touch brilliance we have seen over the years.
Napoli face a hard test at the Emirates against Arsenal but I believe the Azzurri can win with the talent they have. Both teams are on a roll in their respective domestic competitions and it’s a case of Benitez vs Wenger so who will prevail? As a Serie A supporter I will be barracking for Napoli and without being biased I just see the Napoli attack being more potent and lethal.
AC Milan travel to Amsterdam to face Ajax and after a very disappointing start I would not be surprised to see Ajax claim the 3 points. Balotelli returns to the line up as he is still serving a 3 match ban in the domestic competition. Alessandro Matri will need to step up along with Robinho and co to get a vital away win to maintain a perfect start to their UCL campaign.
Predictions for the UCL:
Ajax vs AC Milan – (1-1)
Arsenal FC vs Napoli – (1-3)
Juventus FC vs Galatasaray FC – (1-0)
Until next time guys.
