The Baggies Stun Champions Manchester United

West Brom got their first win at Old Trafford in 35 years after two stunning strikes. Firstly from Morgan Amalfitano and Saido Berahino proved to be enough for the visitors. Rooney managed to score a free kick to equalise prior to West Brom’s winning goal. Despite showing character and bouncing back from last week’s Manchester Derby defeat with a Capital One cup victory over arch rivals Liverpool, David Moyes’ side were unable to break down a disciplined West Brom back line.

Manchester United had most of the possession in the first half but it was the visitors who had the two best chances Berahino glancing a header just wide and Sessegnon blazing over from a corner. Nani providing the best attacking outlet for the home side setting up the clearest chance of the half with Chicharito denied getting the ball in the net by Boaz Myhill. After the break the young Belgian winger Adnan Januzaj was substituted for Kagawa but the visitors went ahead through a stunning solo run from Amalfitanio before clipping it over De Gea. The lead proved to be short lived as Rooney scored through a whipped in free kick beating a host of onrushing players and most importantly, Myhill. Robin Van Persie was then brought on the hour mark as Manchester United fans sensed that their team could push for the winner. West Brom however, had that same idea as Jonas Olsson headed a Amalfitano's corner against the United crossbar. Moments later they grabbed what proved to be the winner. It was a well-worked team goal that ended with Berhahimo driving in a 20-yard effort past David De Gea. There was just over 20 minutes to play. United did rally in the last 10 minutes, with Marouane Fellani having a goal ruled out for offside and Carrick being denied by Myhill, however their efforts did not prove to be enough.

Moyes goes on to say in his post match interview. After our worse start to a league season since the 1989/1990, The Red Devils require another positive mid-week reaction, this time in Europe against a tough Ukranian side Shakhtar Donetsk.
