Leicester City Weekend Round Up
Article by Jonathan Smith
Leicester City got their epic week of
action underway on Saturday afternoon with a 1-1 draw against league leaders
Burnley at the King Power Stadium. The point helped the Foxes hold onto third
spot but saw Burnley drop from top to second following QPR’s 2-0 win over
Blackpool.
Leicester went into the game on the back
of two away defeats and doubts were beginning to form about their
promotion-winning credentials. It was a similar story at this stage last
season. City struggled to a 2-2 draw at home against Barnsley before a 1-0
defeat away at Millwall last December. A third consecutive defeat was a scary
prospect with Manchester City next up in the League Cup Quarter-Final and,
fellow promotion-chasers, QPR the opponent next Saturday.
Thankfully, City got off to a flying
start against the Clarets. The home side unleashed attack after attack but
didn’t break the deadlock until the 14th minute when David Nugent
dispatched yet another penalty after Jamie Vardy was brought down in the box.
Leicester really should have taken a bigger lead into the second half but
failed to convert any more of their numerous chances. They were made to pay two
minutes after the break when the prolific Danny Ings drew the away team level.
Burnley went on to dominate for most of the second period although Jamie Vardy
did have a chance to claim all three points but the opportunity was squandered.
It seemed that Burnley were happy with
the point towards the end; content with soaking up the last surge from
Leicester. They were probably right to do so as the point guaranteed them a
place in the top two no matter what else happened elsewhere on Saturday. QPR
are yet to lose a home league fixture so far this season which will make next
Saturday’s challenge a tough one for City.
There has been talk of Leicester
snapping up Sylvan Ebanks-Blake on a free transfer during the past week and
judging by the amount of chances we’re creating without an end product, a new striker
is maybe needed. Even Henrik Larsson has been at the training ground working
with the club’s Development squad recently. How we could’ve done with someone
of his finishing ability on Saturday! We could perhaps learn a few finishing
lessons from Man City on Tuesday evening. Anyone who scores six past Tottenham
and Arsenal can’t be bad in front of goal.
