£6 Million for Vaughan? Why Now?
Article by Celtic Correspondent Rory Higgins
If news is to be believed today, Celtic are currently monitoring the situation of Huddersfield Town’s James Vaughan, but is he really worth it?
Every Celtic fan ,whether they liked Hooper or not, has to admit that we have missed his fox in the box type of player this season. Too many times has a delivery gone right across the face of goal where Hooper always used to be, just to prod home.

The papers are linking Celtic with James Vaughan, who yes has had injury troubles in the past, but recently with Huddersfield it looks like he has put them behind him. The question is though, why are Celtic likely to pay £6 million for a player who is only really a proven goalscorer at Championship level, when in the summer they could have bought Alfred Finnbogason from Heerenveen for the same price?
Finnbogason was not only one of the top goalscorers in Holland last season but he is also leading the way again this season. The answer is that Celtic, as per usual, tried to take the cheap and easy option again in the summer, and this year in the Champions League have paid heavily for it.
What are your thoughts? Do you want Celtic to go all out for Vaughan or should they wait and possibly lose Vaughan but have other options become available?

Only proven at Championship level - you mean the league that's much better than the mickey mouse Scottish premiership!
ReplyDeleteWell said Dave. A typical ignorrant response form someone who clearly has no knowkledge of the game, and even less outside of his local pub league games.
ReplyDeleteMickey Mouse league indeed!
ReplyDeleteProvincial queens - what are they like?!
Lets put some clarity on this, HTAFC paid around 600k for Vaughan, not the 1 million touted after he reportedly failed the medical. The chairman over ruled the medical advise and took a gamble. And a gamble it still is as he could still be injury prone in the future. and as for the argument around the quality of the championship i would suggest that the teams at the top end are as good as if not better than most in the Scottish premier. My opinion. anyway if you want to give a 10 fold profit in 6 months on a player give it a go.
ReplyDeleteNorwich who are struggling for goals at the moment let him go for 600k. If anything Vaughan has fallen through the leagues and finally found his level. Celtic aren't looking for a striker for the SPL they can win that without buying a striker. They need someone who can score a few in Europe i don't think Vaughan is that man.
