FA Premier League - Upton Park, Sunday 6th April 2014

K.O 16.00 Live on Sky Sports 1

Match Preview

Sam Allardyce’s men host Liverpool at Upton Park in search of a third successive win in the Premier League following a 2-1 wins over Hull and Sunderland respectively. West Ham currently occupy 11th in the Premier League table with 37 points knowing that a win will surely end any lingering relegation doubts and would put West Ham 14 points clear of the drop zone with only five games to play. The Hammers last outing came in the Monday night football against Sunderland with goals from Andy Carroll and Mohamed Diame securing West Ham’s tenth win of the season. Liverpool meanwhile arrive in East London as the Premier League’s in form team having won each of their last eight games including a 4-0 thrashing of Tim Sherwood’s Tottenham in their last match at Anfield. Brendan Rodger’s side currently sit at the top of the Premier League table with 71 points and will be looking for their 9th away win of the season. Their last away game came in the form of a thrilling 6-3 win over Cardiff courtesy of a Luis Suarez hat trick.

Previous Meetings

West Ham’s last meeting with Liverpool ended in a 4-1 defeat at Anfield, which began in unfortunate circumstances after a resilient West Ham side went a goal down just before half time following a Guy Demel own goal. The second half showed little sign of improvement as Mamadou Sakho scored to put Liverpool 2-0 ahead, but West Ham did get some consolation through a Martin Skrtel own goal, however West Ham’s efforts counted for nothing with Luis Suarez scoring twice late on to give Liverpool the win. The Hammers also finished the match with ten men as captain Kevin Nolan was shown a straight red card. West Ham’s last win over Liverpool came in February 2011 with goals from Scott Parker, Demba Ba and a late goal from Carlton Cole lifting Avram Grant’s side off the bottom of the table.

Team News

Hammers defender George McCartney remains a doubt for Sundays game following a hamstring injury suffered against Sunderland on Monday; meanwhile Joey O’Brien continues his comeback from a dislocated shoulder suffered against Chelsea in December although the game will come too soon for him. Liverpool however arrive in London with Jose Enrique being the only absentee, missing out due to a knee injury suffered earlier in the season.

e-West Ham Prediction

Last seasons match at Upton Park proved to be a fascinating encounter, with West Ham holding a 2-1 lead before two late goals meant Liverpool took all three points. Liverpool come into this game on an amazing run of form hungry for another vital win which will take them one step closer to the title, whilst despite having hit some good recent form I don’t think Big Sam’s side will have enough to contain Sturridge and Suarez.

West Ham 1-3 Liverpool
