Some news broke from the King Power stadium this week that many of the Leicester City faithful were hoping and waiting for. Their No.1 Kasper Schmeichel finally put his name on the dotted line this week and extended his contract with the foxes in a new 4 year deal.

There has been much speculation about the Danish internationals future as his contract with the foxes was due to expire after their title winning season came to an end. The Leicester shot stopper was linked with moves to Southampton, Arsenal, Manchester United and A.C Milan to name a few. But in a move that delighted many a members of the blue army, Schmeichel showed a moment of loyalty, rarely seen in the modern game, signing on the dotted line and sticking with the blues.

When Leicester signed goalkeeper Ben Hamer on a free after his contract with Charlton Athletic expired, many questions were raised as to whether he was being signed as a replacement for Schmeichel or as competition for Kasper’s No.1 jersey. That question has now been answered and Leicester can now look forward to seeing Schmeichel between the sticks next season.

Schmeichel was crucial to Leicester City in their promotion winning campaign last season, being consistently one of their best players, pulling of crucial saves, keeping clean sheets and even trying to contribute with a goal, whether or not it was his goal is still up for debate. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tW7DmuWYzms

The 27 year old had struggled to settle down at a club prior to finding his home at the King Power, playing for no less than 8 clubs before signing for the foxes. Since signing for Leicester in 2011 he has earned the club's player of the year and players' player of the year awards in the 2011/12 season and a place in the 2012/13 Championship PFA Team Of The Year.

Schmeichel will no doubt be a key factor to Leicester if they are to survive in their first season in the top flight for 10 years and his contract extension could well be Leicester City’s best piece of business this summer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Fl_keXhss4

In other news this week, Leicester have reportedly triggered an £800k clause in Cardiff frontman Frazier Campbell’s contract and talks have begun with the striker, but Cardiff are said to be keen on trying to keep him.

It’s definitely been another very busy week for Leicester City. The positive vibe coming from the foxes since their promotion was further increased this week by the retention of Kasper Schmeichel and I’m sure the good news will keep rolling in for the Championship winners.
