Are Liverpool Owners backing Rodgers??

Well the deadline hour came and went, with most Liverpool fans hoping to wake up the following morning to pictures of Konoplyanka proudly wearing the famous red shirt. Instead we were greeted with an all too familiar transfer failure. Why did we fail yet again? Was it asking price? Was it Ian Ayre's inability to close another deal or was it that multi-billionaire Dnipro owner Ihor Kolomoyskyi just wasn't prepared to sell? Who knows??

The latter I find hard to believe because if Kolomoyskyi didn't want to sell or indeed didn't have any intention of selling his prized asset, then why even agree to enter negotiations in the first place? The answer would have been a firm Not For Sale!! Thank you but no thank you. Many fans will be blaming managing director Ian Ayre for the deal collapsing, perhaps in the past he may have been to blame (who could forget the fiasco of letting Andy Carroll sign for the Hammers leaving poor Rodgers with one solitary striker) but this time, personally, I find myself on his side after trying to negotiate for 48 hours solid keeping at bay the likes of Spurs and Leverkusen. From the stories I've heard trying to broker a deal with the Dnipro tycoon would have been similar to extracting a lion's tooth with a set of tweezers. So no, it would be all too easy to use Ayre as a scapegoat.

Forgive me for being cynical but one wouldn't be surprised if Abramovich had something to do with this, after all he must have some sort of network affiliation with the Dnipro billionaire. Who knows, maybe Kolomoyskyi owes Roman a favour.

If you ask me, our transfer failings is down to the almighty dollar. It's not all doom and gloom as the club is working tirelessly to broker lucrative financial partnerships which will hopefully provide us with more firepower in future transfer windows but at present its plain and simple, we just simply cannot compete.

Without a doubt, Rodgers is suffering from the wastefulness of the Dalglish/Comolli era (with the exception of Suarez and Henderson of course, with the latter finally proving his worth). At present, one cannot blame the owners for their apprehensiveness in regards to splashing the cash, especially with what has happened in the past but at some point they need to afford Rodgers the same luxury if they are truly intent on returning Liverpool to their long overdue glory days. The failing of capturing Mohammed Salah was purely and solely down to the fact that we could not meet Basel's asking price, where we took nigh on two and half months to try and agree a deal, Chelsea come in and tied a deal up straight away. The Konoplyanka deal in my opinion was exactly the same. Dnipro valued Yevhen at $20 million but we were only prepared to pay $15 to $16 million. Now I know many people say that money wasn't the issue but believe me, billionaire's do not get their money from being generous, in fact the direct opposite, the Dnipro owner was certainly not under any financial pressure to sell and why should he, they are more than comfortable in terms of spare cash so why should they sell their prized asset unless they get what they believe is the right price.

Finally, If Rodgers manages to guide the team to a top four finish with the limitations he has had to endure, then surely it’s about time that John W. Henry and Co afford him the leap of faith he thoroughly deserves. The million dollar question is and what I'm personally more concerned about, have the Fenway Group really got the bankroll needed to ensure success?

  2. Come on, the players agent has said that the money was all paid and it was the owner who refused to sign the deal. Another attempt to undermine LFC.
