Last night saw underdogs Chelsea beat undefeated Manchester City at the Etihad, meaning the race for top 4 is even tighter than before. Chelsea are sitting in 3rd with 53 points as Manchester City are 2nd with the same number of points after their home loss last night.

Arsenal are top of the league with 55 points but are to face Liverpool this Saturday at Anfield and tensions will be high as both teams need a win and Arsenal have a very harsh February lined up. Liverpool will be hoping that players such as Giroud will be rested at some point in February during their two meets for the Premier League and the FA Cup as Arsenal need to prepare for the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich. The Liverpool FA Cup game has also been announced for Sunday afternoon which Wenger is not happy about as he needs to prepare for Bayern Munich on the Wednesday evening.

The Gunners did manage to secure Sweden International Kim Kallstrom as Liverpool and Manchester City gained no new recruits this January and Chelsea have now given Mata to Manchester United.

Liverpool currently sit 4th in the league with 47 points, only 2 more points than rivals Everton. With SAS continuously working hard together, their co-ordination remains a threat to any team. Liverpool's weakness remains within their defence as Daniel Agger is rumoured to be leaving at the end of the season along with Glen Johnson and after Kolo Toure's mistake last Sunday, little faith is held for the Red's back line..

Arsenal have also faced their fair share of injuries this season as Giroud has only recently returned, Aaron Ramsey is out for up to six weeks and Jack Wilshere is caring for an ankle strain. To top it all off for Arsenal, Mathieu Flamini has been banned for four games, just as they face a tough month.

The top 4 is certainly an exciting race and as more and more competitive games continue, the matches are becoming more and more heated. European football awaits and with the pressures of keeping Luis Suarez, Liverpool are more desperate than ever to remain at the top.
