Newcastle - Do we dare to dream?

In the middle of the transfer saga that comes as part of being a Newcastle fan, I’d like to do something a little bit different and fantasise for a moment. What if we it was less about the profit and more about the performance? What if we gave Pardew all the right tools to build a good squad?

If Newcastle had kept Demba Ba last season and could tie down Cabaye to a long term contract, then with one or two more additions could we start competing with the bigger clubs more consistently? We have already enjoyed big wins over Manchester United, Chelsea and Spurs this season, we played very well against Manchester City and Arsenal but didn’t get the rub of the green (or the ref) in either games. If we played as we did against City in every game then surely we could be going for the top 4, as all us fans dream of?

I understand that buying a player for 4 million pounds and selling him for 20 million plus is good business, but a football team shouldn’t need to be run this way with the amount of money that comes from TV rights and sponsorships these days.

If you can start getting champions league football for a couple of seasons then the attraction of players becomes a lot easier, even for Joe Kinnear. Is it too far out of our reach? Or would a little bit more financial backing from our billionaire owner be enough to take us to that next level?

  1. Not to mention the money from actually competing in the two U.E.F.A. tournaments. A few consecutive Seasons in Europe and the team could start to pay for itself.

  2. Thanks for your comment.

Agree completely, the UEFA tournaments are a great way to bring money into the club and it would take a few years of losses to start generating money from it. Were not a million miles away
