Many predicted zero points for Leicester City in their opening fixtures of the premier league but they have shown great desire and fighting spirit to gain commendable draws against Everton and Arsenal.

Even the game against Chelsea, City didn’t look out of sorts and held Chelsea for 63 minutes until Diego Costa and then Eden Hazard won the game 2-0 for the Londoners.

Leonardo Ulloa has bagged himself a couple of goals and looks decent, Jeff Schlupp’s showing what he can do down the left wing and with his pace is daunting for any defender.

Riyad Mahrez has been the stand out player for me so far and his skill and vision is fantastic and I can only see him getting better as the season goes on.

Now with the additions of Esteban Cambiasso, Danny Simpson, Nick Powell and Tom Lawrence, City’s squad has cover for all places.

One slightly puzzling question is that City at the start of the season were short in central midfield and when Danny Drinkwater got injured in the game against Everton and Matty James before the first game of the season, meant they only had Andy King and Dean Hammond as the only other two recognised centre midfielders.

Don’t get me wrong, Nigel Pearson has done tremendously well in the transfer market to get the players he has got and with the signing of Argentine, Esteban Cambiasso, it has been a genuine coup for the club. However I am surprised it took City so long to get another central midfielder in.

With Nick Powell being signed on loan from Manchester United on deadline day, this has given City the midfield cover they needed before the start of the season. I can’t help wondering if City wanted to sign Nick Powell in the first place, why didn’t they sign him before transfer deadline day? My guess would be that they didn’t want to alert any other clubs that City actually wanted him.

Anyway the transfer deadline has now passed and City have a squad that can compete. Let’s see what September brings.
