The international break is now over, and Blues kick off the season again on Saturday against Leeds United, which will be shown live on Sky. The past few results haven’t gone Blues’ way, with late goals stopping the team collecting 3 points. But that’s the past, and a fresh start means this Blues team can hopefully start putting more points on the board.

There’s been a bit of activity over the break, most notably the signing of American winger Brek Shea from Stoke on loan. Shea was brought in after the club failed to sign either Hatem Ben Arfa or Florent Malouda in the transfer window.

Personally, I think the signing of Shea can only be good for the team. Blues have lacked real pace down both flanks this season. David Cotterill has done all he can, but when you send all your attacks down one flank, it gets predictable. The signing of Shea will hopefully provide more competition in the team, and with the news that Lee Novak is out for a month with a knee injury, he may even start. With 2 actual wingers on the pitch, we may be able to trouble opposition defences more.

Leeds currently sit 2 places above us in the table, with 6 points to our five. With their manager, Dave Hockaday, being sacked in the international break however, I think this fixture provides the ideal opportunity to kickstart our season.

Leeds’ team will be shaken without a permanent manager, and so if Clark puts out an attacking side in front of a noisy home crowd, 3 points could be up for the taking. Our injures are Novak, Matt Green and Denny Johnstone at the moment. However, only Novak has an impact on the first team, so I expect Blues to line up in Clark’s usual 4-4-2, and new signing Shea to line up on the right.

Let’s hope our boys are firing on all cylinders to get some good results.
