Barnsley FC: Enjoy your humble pie, Danny

After watching Milton Keynes Dons dismantle a poor Manchester United side 4-0 in the Carling Cup, Danny Wilson resolutely insisted that his side would not become such a fate in the league 1 fixture that was played out on the afternoon of 13/09/2014.

Wilson commented " Under 21 football even at Manchester United level is nowhere near the standard of senior professional football, Milton Keynes will find it much tougher against league 1 opposition."

Well Danny I'm writing this article at 5.15pm Saturday the 13th September and I have just watched your teams woeful performance and I can tell you, you're very wide of the mark.

They breezed past our hopeless Barnsley team and scored 5 goals after just 79 minutes.

Sure we scored 3 consolation goals in the last eleven minutes which will at least ease the goal difference but by then the game was dead and buried and Milton Keynes had taken their feet off the gas and bagged their first 3 points against the reds at Oakwell.

Watching Barnsley these days is typified by Forest Gumps quote " Life's Like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get.

One week thumping Gillingham 4-1 and then being hammered at home against the Dons.

My assessment is simple, Alan Hanson once famously said, you will never win anything with Kids.

Danny has assembled a youthful squad, the team lacks experience especially in the midfield areas.

This team will not be pushing for promotion at the end of the term unless changes are made quickly.

As I have stated in various articles we miss a tenacious ball winning midfielder who can stamp authority on the game and maintain possession, a forward who can hold the ball up and bring other players into the fray and then for me, we must have just a couple of wise old heads.

I really think that allowing Sir Bobby Hassel to leave the club was a howler of a decision, he would have loved playing the holding role in midfield and his role is what we desperately needed today.

We have been missing Keith Treacy and James Bailey in recent matches and there imminent return will no doubt help in respect of adding a little more experience.

I would also love to see Ross Turnbull between the sticks, Adam Davies as been a reasonable deputy so far for the injured Turnbull but the MK performance was horrible, poor kicking has let him down all season but he also has a tendency to parry balls back towards the strikers when making saves. It may have been better trying to turn the ball up and over the crossbar or around the post.

On today's showing we also quickly need a right full back to replace Reece Brown, who must be lacking confidence from his recent displays. Reece clearly looks out of position in the full back role and was terrorised by the MK winger today, but also against York in the JPT.

On the positive note, we do have an attacking threat, Connor Hourihane is bagging goals for fun and from midfield at that, five from six starts, the guy has scored some wonder goals.

Eat your heart out Neil Redfearn.

Devante Cole's pace is causing teams real problems too, three goals in three games so far for the son of the Manchester United and Newcastle legend.

Next up are trips to Fleetwood and Port Vale.

I am not a betting man, but if I was I wouldn't have a clue which way to bet.

What about you?
