Paul Lambert and The Policy Change
Article by Stephen Attridge
Young and hungry players. I'm sick of the phrase. You're sick of the phrase. It's needs to be banned. It's more over used than the word 'sick' or 'random' even.
Paul Lambert you have a lot to answer for.
I can't quite decide whose idea it was- either Lambert or Lerner but it's beyond risky, and unless you are as good as Arsene Wenger at talent spotting it's going to end in tears. Everytime.

Lambert would always say ' how do you know if they're good enough unless you give them the opportunity?' Well, while true it's a bit like saying 'how you know you can't lift you own house with your bare hands unless you try?'
Some things are fairly obvious. Sylla is never a premier league player. Westwood isn't good enough. Bennett isn't good enough. Bowery... Oh dear. You get my drift.
It's not worked.
We have, in fact done a Martin O'Neil but by spending less. Lambert has bought a bunch of players who are blatantly not going to play.
Helenius? Doesn't fancy him. It's pretty obvious as he's signed his best mate from Wigan who will probably play instead if Benteke gets injured. Funny though because Helenius scored goals in pre season and when he came on the other day. But that's another story. Maybe he just doesn't like the fella....
So all of a sudden our players 'need a hand' with some experience. What a bombshell. The penny must have fallen from the highest point in Birmingham because it's taken an age to drop.
Lambert's realised too many youngsters aren't going to make it. So the size of the squad he is comfortable about using is very small. So he needs some guaranteed quality and fast.
The trouble is there is no money as Lerner is preparing the club for sale by getting the figures right. So bring on Grant Holt...
It's a tough life being a villa fan.
The only good news is I think we will survive. Benteke has started scoring again and Vlaar and Clarke look fairly solid at the back.
Fingers crossed...
