Nigel Clough has made his first big step into the transfer market as Sheffield United boss with the signings of John Brayford and Steffan Scougall.

John Brayford, the Cardiff right-back, has joined up with former boss Clough as rumours abound that Tony McMahon is heading to Blackpool. The loan deal, which will last to the end of the season, is something of a coup for the Blades with many other clubs interested.

Likewise, Stefan Scougall has signed a three-and-a-half year deal after Livingstone accepted an estimated 400k bid by the Blades earlier this week. Regarded highly as one of the best prospects north of the border, the attacking midfield player moves into a squad desperately in need of creativity.

Finally, Bob Harris, who was expected to sign for United last week before his parent club Blackpool sacked Paul Ince, is likely to move to Bramall Lane after this weekend. Reports suggest Tony McMahon will move in the opposite direction.

The flurry of transfers should excite Blades ahead of Sundays televised F.A Cup tie against Fulham. With the Cottager’s boss Rene Meulensteen suggesting he will rotate his squad, Nigel Clough and his team will be confident of repeating another F.A Cup shock.
