Why Tettey’s Goal Was Better Than Rooney’s

The Wayne Rooney or David Beckham debate seemed to dominate the pub tables and sports shows following a goal-fest Saturday in the Premiership, but another, if more unusual discussion has also cropped up, Rooney or Alexander Tettey.
In fact this is probably the first time they have ever been mentioned in the same sentence.
While both are accepted as being great goals, most pundits seem to have decided Rooney’s effort from the halfway line superior to Tettey’s 30-yard volley, but I would like to make the case for Norwich’s Norwegian dynamo because I truly believe it was a far better.
While Rooney’s reactions and accuracy were certainly impressive he did basically punt it from long-range and if it had not been for some woeful positioning and back-tracking from West Ham goalkeeper Adrian it would have never gone in.
Yes, goals from such range are impressive, but whenever they happen it is because the goalie is too far off his line giving an opportunity to the attacking player.

If Adrian had been standing a yard or two further back he comfortably catches the ball and what will go down as a famous goal would have been denied.
In terms of reaction, positioning and contact Tettey’s shot was every bit as good as Rooney’s, but with one key difference, the Scandinavians shot would not have been saved by any goalkeeper.
If I were a cynic, I would argue the reason Rooney’s goal is being lauded above Tettey’s is because he is English and plays for Manchester United and I am sure many Red’s fans will argue this is exactly what I am saying.
However, my entire point is from a technical standpoint Tettey’s volley is far better than Rooney’s hopeful hoof up-field.
Yes, as a Norwich fan I am probably a little biased, but it is only fair Tettey’s goal gets the appreciation it deserves and it deserves so much more than a speculative shot which was lucky to go in.
Hopefully Tettey will put this debate to rest and score another cracker when Norwich head to Old Trafford in a few weeks.

It was better, the ball was coming towards him and therefore a much more complex technique. Rooney's was impressive improvisation, but Tettey's would be given ghoul of the season if it had been Toure, Rooney RVP or the like hitting something so sweet.
