On The Pitch

01 March – Chelsea Youth 0-2 Leicester City Youth. A young Chelsea team containing six school boys, succumbed to two late goals from Danny Rowe and Chris Dusabe.

01 March – Fulham 1-3 Chelsea. The Blues made the short trip to Craven Cottage, and after a largely forgettable first-half, ran out comfortable 3-1 victors thanks to a hat trick from Germany international Andre Schurrle. Chelsea took the lead on 51 minutes. Schurrle sprinted on to a sublime through ball from Eden Hazard, held off the challenge of Dan Burn, and finished expertly beyond Maarten Steklenburg. Schurrle added his and Chelsea’s second on 64 minutes. Hazard was again the provider, running at the home defence before teeing up Schurrle for the finish. Schurrle completed his hat-trick on 68 minutes, latching on to Fernando Torres pass and firing into the bottom corner. Fulham scored a consolation on 73 minutes when Johnny Heitinga prodded home from close-range after Chelsea failed to clear a left-wing corner.

05 March – Internationals. Chelsea had various players away on International duty this week. Gary Cahill played the full 90 minutes for England in their 1-0 victory over Denmark. Ashley Cole played the first-half, and Frank Lampard was an unused substitute. Oscar opened the scoring for Brazil in their 5-0 win over South Africa, and new signing Mohamed Salah scored Egypt’s second goal in a 2-0 win over Bosnia. Elsewhere, Lewis Baker captained England U19’s during the second-half of their 3-0 win against Turkey, and scored the third goal from the penalty spot.
