Still no “new” signings, I know, but it’s been a very good week or so for Crystal Palace nevertheless. Possibly Siggy and Campbell in....wait and see on those.
First to Marouane Chamakh, who has signed up for another two years.
If retaining Julian Speroni saved us a few quid on a new ‘keeper, then retaining the mecurial Chamakh saved us a packet.
Our “number 10″ playing in the hole. But a number 10 who defends, helping the midfield. Vital for a team like us. Along with Jedinak et al, he ensures we wins most aerial battles. With his exquisite Wenger-drilled touch and ability to win free kicks, he provides us with an outlet.
He is, in my opinion, technically, by far our best player.
Outsiders may laugh at my review. And cerainly at my use of the word mecurial. Even some of our fans. All of them clueless. Sorry.
In truth I’m grateful for people’s ignorance. In terms of the outsiders – it’s allowed us to keep the lad.
Last week the club announced it’s new shirt sponsor – Optimal Payments, a global online payment provider. “NETELLER” (one of their services) will be emblazoned on the shirt. I think it looks good too.
This new sponsorship deal is the most lucrative in the club’s history. This is how far we’ve come under the current chairmen. Big money for a club whom, just a few years ago, had to sell players simply to survive.
Today the players and management return from Austria and what sounds a gruelling week of fitness training. Gruelling but hugely beneficial. It culminated in a 13-1 win last night.
With Pulis back in the country, signings in some guise shouldn’t be far off. We’re aiming high that’s for sure – Caulker and Sigurdsson according to the media, although both may be waiting for “bigger moves”.
As does the sponsorship deal, these ambitious but not unrealistic links are indicative of our current status.
I like to imagine that Steve Parish strikes that Leonardo Di Caprio pose from Wolf of Wall Street, a fair bit.
He, and the rest of CPFC2010, deserve to.
