Southampton FC will be producing its own kit and training wear for the 2014/15 season.

For the first time since 2008, Saints will be wearing a strip designed by the club which has led to some fans wondering whether it means a return to the famous red and white stripes that had become synonymous with the team.

For the years in between, the players have turned out in the stripes twice, the anniversary special with the diagonal stripe and for the past two seasons, very “all red” shirts.

The reason behind the disappearing white lines was never entirely explained but various explanations including the lucky red favoured by Vincent Tan and red being more marketable in the eyes of global audiences were put forward.

Now, the club get the chance to appease large sections of the fans who have been clamouring for the stripes to make a comeback.

With the departure of Mauricio Pochettino, Luke Shaw and Ricky Lambert, the change of shirts also offers the chance of a fresh start for the new management of Ronald Koeman and allows Katharina Liebherr and Ralph Krueger the chance to win easy brownie points.

The new kit will be released at the end of July.

This is time for a new manager, a new strip and a new Saints.
