Pochettino’s Tottenham- Underwhelming Efficiency

It’d be quite the understatement to suggest that Tottenham’s transfer movements have as far this summer been quiet underwhelming, with the only major dealings being players leaving the Lane, as opposed to players coming in, however, this may well prove to be the most efficient summer in recent years.

It’s well known that we’ve needed a minor clear-out, with many players failing to live up to the hype that their names hold, looking specifically at players such as Gylfi Sigurdsson and Benoit Assou-Ekotto, as well as a certain Brazilian holding midfielder who I won’t name, as many seemingly disagree with that suggestion....

Clearing out these squad players, will allow for space to form in our packed squad, as well as providing us with financial backing to go forward and fill in the clear gaps within our team, as well as potential reinforcing other areas.

As far, Mauricio Pochettino has targeted a player we could only have dreamed of for the past few seasons, a real left back! With Swansea’s welsh 21 year old, Ben Davies reportedly on the verge of joining the club for around £10 Million, and yet as unspectacular it may sound, in comparison to the£100 Million splurge on 7 international players last summer, if Davies turns out anything like the last young, welsh left back we signed, we should be fairly pleased.

Potentially following Davies with the move to London is Michel Vorm, known as “penalty killer”, due to the Netherlands international ‘keeper abilities at denying players from the spot. Obviously, with Hugo Lloris signing a new long term deal only a couple of weeks ago, Vorm isn’t expected to be signing to be first choice, however following Heurelho Gomes leaving the club at the conclusion of his contract earlier this month, coupled with Brad Friedel’s age, signing another high quality goalkeeper will not only allow Hugo to be rested in less important matches, but provide competition for the French captain. Yet another potential unspectacular signing.

Now, I must say, signing a back-up goalkeeper and a young left back, isn’t exactly the thriller of signings which we see clubs around us making, but Pochettino is certainly attempting to install some balance into our squad, which is what we’ve truly needed since before even the Redknapp era. Best way to describe this summer? Underwhelming efficiency.

  1. Underwhelming means disappointing. Why is it disappointing? Efficient yes, underwhelming it isn't.
