So the first signing of the summer turns out to be Rio Ferdinand and the news has been received with cautious optimism. His ability and experience are there for all to see and he will be a great asset in the dressing room. If as is rumoured we are able to sign Steven Caulker from Cardiff we will have a very strong defence to build upon.
Obviously with our return to the top flight of English football it is imperative we learn from past mistakes and the signs are good so far. The owners and the management are looking for players who want to play for the club, this means not letting down the fans and all those connected to it. The memories of some players putting in sub standard performances and heads dropping in our last premiership campaign is something we do not want to see again.
Harry appears to be keeping the nucleus of the squad that got us promoted last year and with the return to fitness of players such Ale Faulin and Matt Phillips our midfield looks to be strong enough to compete at the top level. There is also the news that Granero is happy to stay and perhaps he will fulfil his potential and add another option in a creative midfield that already includes Barton, Hoilet and whoever else Harry brings in.
As discussed in previous posts we will need to strengthen our attacking options with someone to share the burden with Charlie Austen, especially as it now seems that Remy will be joining Liverpool. Goals were a problem for us last season and it be even harder this time round where the standard of opposition will be so much more tougher.
There are many rumours flying around as to who QPR will or will not buy and I do not intend to add to them. It is good the club are looking for the kind of player who wants to play for the R's and not just screw us for a ridiculous amount of money. We need to get the right balance of youth and experience and the next few weeks will see if the club can achieve this in the transfer market. It would also be good to see Harry bring on one or two of the young players from the under 21's.
For me there are a few signs that we can give a better account of ourselves this time, I am cautiously optimistic that it cannot be a worse experience then the last time round.
