The appointment of Louis Van Gaal as the new manager of Manchester United, has not only made a few players sweat over their futures, it seems like some of the current staff are too.
It was announced that Van Gaal would be keeping Ryan Giggs on as his assistant manager. An announcement that was music to the ears of every single Manchester United fan. Let's face it Giggs IS Mr Man Utd. He also recruited Frans Hoek and Marcel Bout to his backroom team.
So what about others?
It seems apparent that Paul Scholes may no longer have anything to do with the coaching staff. Scholes returned to Old Trafford last April to help out Ryan Giggs after his former team-mate was temporarily placed in charge following the departure of David Moyes. During the World Cup, he wrote a blog for Paddy Power. There was a fair bit of criticism for some of the current United players. Now if im honest, and this is a personal opinion, he wasn't wrong, he just said what most were thinking. On his blog he said;
"I've not spoken to (vice-chairman) Edward Woodward,"
"I came back for Ryan Giggs for the last few games of last season to try to help out but I'm not waiting for a phone call and don't expect to be at United next season."
A shame really, as Scholes was one of the greatest midfielders to have graced the Premier League, and a member of staff who's knowledge would be priceless, especially to the up and coming youngsters.
It has come out recently that Phill Neville and Nicky Butt are now also wondering where their future lies. Last year, Manchester United fans were treated to the sight of Neville launching himself into the technical area with his magic "clipboard" dishing out orders. He received a lot of stick from some fans for this. The thing with Neville is, he just passionately loves Manchester United. I, as a fan in the stands, just thought that it didn't look right. To me he doesn't have that trait in him. I would keep him in a coaching role, but let him concentrate on that. He will have great knowledge on how the club is run and what is expected of a Manchester United player,
The 37 year old told Sky Sports: "There are obviously processes in place and he will have his structures and team, and you just hope you are a part of that."
"I was first-team coach last year. I am not sure what my role will be next year, but over the next couple of weeks I will find out and hopefully I will be involved at Manchester United."
"We do love Man United, but that doesn't give us a divine right to be in and around the club. We have got to make sure we produce and do our job well to have the chance to stay on."
Nicky Butt, 39, worked as assistant to Warren Joyce with the under-21 side and managed the under-19s in the UEFA Youth League. But the under-19 role will not be available next season as the Youth League mirrors the Champions League, which the United senior side have failed to qualify for. Butt was a warrior of a player, a grafter and someone you could imagine takes no slacking on the training field.
Butt said:
"It is a bit unstable at the minute because the manager has not been with us.
"They want me there, and I want to be there but it has got to be for a purpose. The only one that can make that decision is obviously the manager and the owners."
"He has had bigger things on his mind with Holland but hopefully over the next couple of weeks he will be in training and we will sit down and discuss what role, if any, I have got.
"If I have, then great. If not, I've had a fantastic time. I am back in training now but if there is not a job for me there is no point staying."
Van Gaal has some decisions to make when he arrives.
