Ipswich this week made their fifth summer signing by securing goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski on a 2-year deal, for an undisclosed fee.

The deal to sign the Polish U20 international looked to be complete last week, but it stalled after Notts County decided they wanted a small fee following the sale of Aaron Cresswell. Despite always looking like it would go through, the transfer has been a long process from the original reports to completion.

The former Southampton goalkeeper was on loan at Ipswich in March 2009, but his only performance was against Luton in a reserve match where he was sent off for handling the ball outside the box.

Since that spell he has matured and improved significantly, especially last season where he played a pivotal role in keeping the Magpies in league one.

Speaking of the new signing, former Town player and Notts County boss Chris Kiwomya told the EADT “He’s a good goalkeeper, a good trainer and a good lad. I spoke to Mick about him last summer and he was umming and ahhing about signing him then.”

Speaking of his capabilities, he added “His biggest strength is his shot-stopping – he pulled off some remarkable saves last season.

“I vividly remember two games against Swindon in which he made some breathtaking saves. They were ones where everyone was starting to look back to the halfway line in preparation for another kick-off because the ball seemed destined for the net.”
