Premier League Preperations Continue for Leicester City

It’s been another eventful week or so for Leicester City football club. The club have continued their hard work in order to make sure the foxes are fully prepared for their return to the Premier League.

At the time of writing this, only 27 days remain until Leicester City start their adventure in the top flight. Excitement is building within the blue army as the fans wait with eager anticipation of the first match of the season against Everton. Behind the scenes, the backroom staff are still working hard to ensure Leicester get off to their best possible start.

Leicester have already this summer confirmed that many of their current squad have signed on for longer deals, including key men Danny Drinkwater, Matty James, Kasper Schmeichel and Wes Morgan. Now David Nugent, Jamie Vardy, Liam Moore and Jeffrey Schlupp can be added to that list. The fact that Leicester have managed to keep hold of and tie down so many of the players that helped propel them to the top last season, is perhaps more positive and encouraging than signing new players to the team.

Reports from pre-season training have indicated that morale within the squad is still extremely high and that team spirit is very strong, something I’m sure Leicester will do their upmost to carry into the upcoming Premier League season.

During this summer, it has come as no surprise that an ambitious team such as Leicester City have been linked with a whole host of players. Having already confirmed a handful of signings, it would seem that the club aren’t quite finished strengthening their squad.

For the majority of the summer break it has been reported that Nigel Pearson has been chasing Brighton frontman Leonardo Ulloa, with the foxes having multiple bids turned down. This past week it broke that Leicester had finally had a bid accepted for the Argentine striker, thought to be in the region of £7.5 million, raising questions throughout the Leicester City community of ‘is he worth it?’. Personal terms are yet to be discussed with Ulloa, but if Leicester were to sign him, until proven wrong, it has to be a case of ‘in Nigel we trust’.

Another ongoing deal which has had its twists is for Cardiff hit man Frazier Campbell. Originally Leicester looked set to sign Campbell, with a bid of around £800k being agreed. But just recently, Crystal Palace emerged has favourites to sign him, seemingly snatching the signing out from underneath their new Premier League rivals. This week however, reports have come to light that in fact Leicester are once again the leaders in the race for Campbell’s signature and seem almost certain to sign him.

This past week also saw Leicester sign another Manchester United youth player in Louis Rowley. Judging on past signings, the players Leicester City have brought in from Man Utd’s developmental team have proved a great success, particularly the likes of Danny Drinkwater and Matty James, so this bodes very well for Rowley and Jack Barmby, who was himself signed to the youth team earlier in the summer.

Finally, this week saw the release of Leicester’s new home kit for the upcoming Premier League campaign. The unveiling of the kit stirred up a huge buzz and by the time the doors opened on the club shop at the King Power stadium, there were thought to be 200+ people waiting to get their hands on the new kit, the people near the front of the queue were thought to have been there 2 hours prior to opening. The general opinion from the Leicester faithful seem to be very positive. Many fans were proud to get their new shirts, complete with Premier League patches.
