All Things Esteban:
Article by Sam Bassett
Nigel Pearson has proven that he has money to spend after twice breaking the clubs transfer record last season with the purchase of £8million pound man Ulloa and then £9million Kramaric.
But his best bit of business by far last season was convincing the legend Esteban Cambiasso to join the Foxes on a free.
The Argentine was a decisive factor in City’s survival in the 2014/15 campaign, and a fan favourite also, as shown by his Player of the Year Award, as voted for by the club’s supporters.
Due to this, you must assume that signing the midfielder for an extended period of time would be at the top of Pearson’s list of priorities this summer.
Although, there are signs of Pearson preparing for the rejection of the Argentine, as there is speculation over interest in both Michael Essien and Gareth Barry. Obviously Pearson feels the need for experience in the body of the team is of upmost importance.
Cambiasso could reject the contract offer to then retire and become a manager or coach at the club, which I’m sure Pearson would love also. However, I’m sure he’d rather have the midfielder play for another season.
On the other hand, there is rumoured to be interest from another Premier League club, trying to snatch the legend from our clutches.
West Ham have attempted to open talks with the Argentine over a possible switch to the Hammers this summer. Albeit very unlikely, Cambiasso may want to see what all the fuss is about over in the capital.
