Ings can only get better?
Article by Craig Muncey
Liverpool fans will now all be aware that subject to a medical Danny Ings will be joining Liverpool FC as of the 1st July. Burnley and Liverpool have yet to agree to a compensation package which Burnley are entitled to, and if they cannot come to an agreement then this will go to a tribunal, the record fee ever paid in this instance was Daniel Sturridge from Manchester City to Chelsea for £6.5 million.
So the dust has settled and a number of Liverpool fans are unhappy as the player is not a renowned name has just played for a club relegated from the Premiership, so what are Liverpool getting for their money?
Well to start off with, they are getting a player who scored 11 goals in 35 matches in the league last season in a struggling side. 11 goals was only 4 less than the total that Sterling, Sturridge, Balotelli and Lambert combined scored last year (appreciate Sturridge being sidelined for big periods in the year), however when compared in this way, and looking at his total with Burnley is a decent tally.
Ings also last season contributed 4 assists, his previous season in the Championship, he scored 22 league goals and 5 assists, he is a young player at 22 years of age, he is adaptable,so can play in a two up top, or just off a main striker role, could also play slightly wider in a support role to a loan striker. Has good movement, has an eye for a pass, and can finish.
I appreciate it is not a Higuain or a Lacazette, Benzema etc, but to me this is a good signing, even if costs £5 million say as compensation or at a tribunal and does not work out you will not lose out on your money, you will recoup most of if not all your outlay.
Good luck Danny Ings and welcome to Liverpool, and I for one, am glad he did not join Spurs who were looking to get his signature. Looking forward to seeing him play in red next season.
