For all those Liverpool fans who, last night when news broke, had similar thoughts or conversations with friends to the above heading, we thought we would put some details together on the player.
Roberto Firmino Barbosa De Oliviera was born in Maceio in Brazil, he is 23 years old, and has played senior football since 2009 and is a Brazilian international.
Firmino started his senior career with Figueirense in Brazil where he played 38 matches scoring 8 goals, he was initially used as a defensive midfielder as a 17 year old.
December 2010, he was bought by 1899 Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, in his first season he was dropped from the first team squad for turning up late for training not his most auspicious start.
In the 2012-2013 season, Firmino made 36 appearances and scored 7 goals, his talent was starting to show in an attacking midfield role, and his progression was being noted by top European clubs.
Last season,, Firmino was outstanding for the German side, he scored 16 goals in his most prolific goalscoring season. He also earned his first cap for Brazil last season, making his debut against Turkey. To date he was won 9 caps with 4 goals.
In terms of his playing attributes, has fantastic technique, can spot a pass and can also dribble past players, indeed with dribbling his stats are right up there, alongside Ribery and Messi. He has an eye for a goal as proved last season, however over his career to date he is not prolific, 206 senior games in total, 61 goals.
This is a great deal for Liverpool and will excite the fans, he can play either side of main striker or just behind a striker or even in a front two, so just the kind of positions and adaptability Rodgers loves.
