These past three years have been painful for every Blues fan, we have witnessed our club be stripped of its worth in terms of players, the apathy which surrounds the club has been a huge problem and it has left every Blues fan feeling powerless. But recent reports from the Birmingham Mail have proposed that the end is near and a takeover is imminent; for myself I always take these stories with a pinch of salt because as a fan of this fantastic club you always seem to understand that there are more sorrows than joys. Until an announcement has been made by BIHL (BIHL being the parent company of Birmingham City PLC) I refuse to get overly excited just yet.

If it wasn’t for that special day at Bolton, with that last gasp header from the 5”6 Scottish bundle of love we would be playing in the third tier next season. I have to admit, I was a pessimist that day and didn’t believe that we could do it; but we did and the 3,000+ bluenoses who travelled down that day showed exactly what sort of fans we are. Another ‘great escape’ was witnessed that day, but I fear that if the recent regime continues, Birmingham City will be featuring in the third tier without doubt this time next May.

With a squad of 13 senior pro’s who are staying for the next year it is not looking good. With 3 players offered contracts, that may rise to 16, but still is not sufficient to stay up. The biggest area of concern for me is the threadbare defence, being at many of them shocking home displays myself; where Blues only triumphed twice in the league for the entirety of last season, it showed that the young loanees and the inexperience at the back was not good enough for the league demands.

Lets talk hypotheticals… If Blues were taken over, what would you want? Would you want an owner who injects millions of pounds into the squad or an owner who attempts to balance the books? Personally, an owner who insets a philosophy of building around the youth squad we already have is a must. It is still true that investment has to be made by bringing in new recruits in a number of positions, but I’d still like to see the youth put first. Give me a Striker, NATURAL left & right winger a couple of NATURAL centre backs and I will be happy as Larry. We have a clean slate to work off once the takeover is complete, which I believe will work in our favour.

What do you think bluenoses?

Keep right on!
