A week has passed since Neil Lennon's surprise departure from the managers office at Lennoxtown.

The board have stated that they will take there time in selecting the best candidate.

However, with the Champions League qualifiers just around the corner, Celtic really need someone in place shortly to enable the new gaffer has a fair crack at qualification for UEFA's top tournament.

Let's look at those mentioned so far.

Owen Coyle - Was desperate to take the job a few years back when offered it. Family persuasion finally made him decline. Has had patchy record since with Burnley, Bolton and Wigan. Would not be popular choice.

Malky MacKay - Former bit part player of club, Malky on the face of things was a success with Cardiff, although his transfer dealings were average at best. Would probably like the job and would accept it.

David Moyes - Battered and bruised after his Man Utd experience this may be the post to get his career back on track. Grew up a Rangers fan and has previously stated he would like to manage the Ibrox club at some point. This would put off the most fanatical Celtic supporters surely?

Jackie McNamara - Speaks well at press conferences etc. However, his Dundee Utd team have been inconsistent and he is probably at least 5 years away from getting such a job as the one at CFC.

Henrik Larsson - would certainly put "bums on seats" but his record as a boss in Scandinavia to date has been average also and would be a huge gamble.

Steve Clarke - Has spent most of his managerial career in a number two capacity. However, good stint at WBA and unfairly had his contract terminated. A Celtic fan and would surely agree to the post. Appointment would not excite the fans.

Michael Laudrup - Over the piece a good job plying his trade in the Premier League. I fancy a much bigger post awaits.

Roy Keane - Contrary to reports, a good job as manager of Sunderland and average at Ipswich. Keane's appointment would certainly make way for the Irish fan base to come over in thousands again and his support of Celtic would certainly help unite fans and players. Not to mention his vast experience at Champions League level. Roy has matured and his TV work shows that he has not lost his passion for the game. For me he is the best man to carry on the work that Lennon had started. I expect the Irishman to be Glasgow Celtic's next manager and exciting times lie ahead if indeed he is installed.
