Spurs Transfer Rumours Ep.1

And as quickly as the premier league season came to a close, did the transfer rumours begin. And as ever, Tottenham are right in the middle of everything. Now hold your hats, don’t expect another transfer window like last Summer, I highly doubt we’ll be spending another £100 Million and selling anybody for a world record fee, unless Hull push through their interest in Jake Livermore.

Whatever happens, you can guarantee that we’ll be bombarded with transfer rumours linking us with every player under the sun from Luke Shaw to Leandro Damiao.

Jay Rodriguez: Club: Southampton Position: Wideman/Striker - Estimated Price:£15 Million

Southampton’s fine season has had many pundits and fans alike raving about their performances of Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw. Yet many forget about Jay Rodriguez, the former Burnley striker, scored eighteen goals in thirty three games this season, fifteen of which came in thirty premier league matches.

Despite currently recovering from an anterior cruciate injury currently, resulting in him missing the end of Southampton’s season, as well as England’s world cup campaign, he is expected to be fit and flying for the start of next season, and many papers have already began linking us with a move for the Saint. If we were to bring in a manager who would deploy the 4-2-3-1 formation which our squad is built for, the wide left position would be the only occupation needing to be filled and Rodriguez would fit perfectly, adding much needed goals to our midfield who have struggled to find the back of the net during the last season.

Romelu Lukaku: Club: Chelsea Position: Striker - Estimated Price: £22 Million

Despite the arrival of Roberto Soldado in a big money move from Valencia only occurring last Summer, a lack of form from the Spaniard, Jermaine Defoe’s sales in February and Emmanuel Adebayor’s expected sale due his required wage increased means that we are linked with strengthening our front line.

First name being bounced around is Romelu Lukaku. Despite once again proving his credentials during this season, scoring seventeen premier league goals in twenty nine matches on loan at Everton, his parent club, Chelsea, are reportedly close to securing the signature of Diego Costa, meaning that Romelu Lukaku will supposedly be expecting the Bridge for a third season, but this time on a permanent basis. His agent suggested back in April that he was in talks with Daniel Levy; however news concerning this has gone cold since.

If he were available, Lukaku is a talent that we shouldn’t ignore, he’s quick, strong, can hold up the ball and can finish. Now, with two years of first team football in the premier league under his belt, scoring thirty two premier league goals in forty nine starts for West Brom and Everton. However we could experience two implications with this deal, firstly Levy’s fickle nature when it came to dealing with Chelsea over Luka Modric, potentially putting any further dealings with the club in jeopardy. Secondly Romelu’s eagerness to play in the Champions league potentially leaving any deal dead in the water.

Daley Blind Club: Ajax Position: Left Back/Holding Mid - Estimated Price: £5.3 Million

Frank De Boer isn’t the only Ajax associate linked with a move to the Lane this summer, Netherlands full-back, and Daley Blind has been credited with a move to the English Capital this summer. He would certainly fill the current void in our left back slot, as Danny Rose has failed to live up to the hype following his impressive season with Sunderland, whilst Benoit Assou-Ekotto is set to leave the club following the conclusion of his loan deal with Queens Park Rangers.

Blind is accomplished with playing in the left sided full back slot, yet this season he has been deployed in the middle of the pitch in a holding role, where he has looked comfortable and impressive. If De Boer was to come to the Lane, he would surely be eager to surround himself with players he knows, and Daley would be first on his list.
