Arsenal – End Of Term Reports

Following the stroll in the park that was the last home game of the season against West Bromwich Albion, the highlight of that particular lazy Sunday afternoon actually occurred after the final whistle, during the post-match ‘lap of appreciation’.

One moment he was safe in the shadow of daddy; the next, little Archie Wilshere had shimmied past his old man and made a dart for the centre circle. The two and a half year old’s turn of pace was the speediest move of a day notably short on va va voom. That, allied with five year old Elias Sagna scoring an opportunistic goal at the Clock End, got me thinking that Le Prof’s acclaimed youth experiment could potentially enter a new phase and bypass the academy stage altogether. With all that toddler talent on display, plus the addition of a couple of bite sized Beckhams (allegedly ten year old Romeo and nine year old Cruz are already playing for the Gunners in their respective age groups), the Arsenal Board’s long termism looks set to ensure a seamless transition between the nursery and the first team. As a bonus, it could also save a small fortune on new shirts.

As for the class of 2013/14, the end of term reports are in and here are the highlights:

Wojciech Szczesny – Wojciech’s progress this year has been steady. A confident presence who communicates well, Wojciech must continue his good work next term, if he wants to retain the Premier League Golden Glove.

Bacary Sagna – After seven years we will be sad to see Bacary leave us at the end of this term, as his consistency has made him a firm favourite with all the teaching staff. Good luck to Bacary in his new school.

Per Mertesacker – Per has been a rock in school this term. As well as his consistent campaign at the back, our ‘big friendly giant’ has also proved good support to some of our new batch of foreign students.

Laurent Koscielny – Professor Wenger’s idea to sit Laurent next to Per in class has proved beneficial to both. Add to that Laurent’s ability to anticipate the difficult questions asked of him throughout the year, and this has been a successful term.

Kieran Gibbs – I’m glad to say that Kieran’s attendance record is solid this year, but there is still cause for concern due to the days he is ‘off games’. Let’s hope he can return next term, fitter and less prone to missing matches with a note from matron.

Mikel Arteta – As one of the older boys in class, Mikel always leads by example, even if his term as Form Prefect came about largely by default. As well as his hard work, Mikel also boasts the neatest haircut in class.

Mathieu Flamini – It’s been a pleasure to welcome back one of our old boys this term. Mathieu always contributes strongly in class discussions, but he must learn to play less roughly with other boys or he will continue to pick up too many demerits.

Aaron Ramsey – Deserved winner of this year’s Achievement Award, Aaron’s tireless energy was a constant theme of his term, despite an unfortunate spell on the sidelines. Well done Aaron, it has been a very good year – keep it up!

Santi Cazorla – Following Santi’s sterling effort last year, this term could be seen as a little disappointing for him. Santi needs to stand up to the bullies and come back stronger next term.

Jack Wilshere – It has been a less than satisfying year for Jack, as niggling injuries have limited his chances to shine. Jack needs to rest during the summer break and come back refreshed and ready to work even harder next year.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – This has been a difficult term for Alex. To fit in he needs to focus more and stop talking so much to Carl Jenkinson during lesson time. If not, Professor Wenger will be forced to sit them apart in class next term.

Mezut Ozil – It has been a pleasure to welcome Mezut to the school this term. He took to his new class mates immediately. As the term wore on Mezut felt the pace of his new environment, however I feel sure next term he will achieve an A grade.

Lukas Podolski – Lukas is a very active member of the school community, as well as being the self-appointed ‘class clown’. However he does need to put a little more effort in his studies and spend less time on social media, to improve next term.

Theo Walcott – When he has been in class, Theo has developed both his understanding and increased his range of movement. The big disappointment is, that time in class has been much less than required to progress.

Olivier Giroud – Despite his tendency to sit with his back to the front of class, Olivier has enjoyed a successful year. His out of class activities may have led to demerits, but Olivier has a positive attitude and has proved a great favourite with matron.

Nicklas Bendtner – Nicklas will be leaving the school at the end of this term. I am sorry to say Nicklas has failed to take the chances offered to him this term and his unauthorized absences, demerits and detentions all stem from a poor attitude.

Abou Diaby – With an attendance record of 0.46%, Abou has been conspicuous by his absence this term. Difficult as it is to access his current level of attainment, to improve next term I feel Abou will need to put in more than one appearance.

With one last examination for the class, let’s hope all the students can finish the term with top marks and a trophy to celebrate the successful completion of another year.
