On The Pitch
04 May – Watford Ladies 1-5 Chelsea Ladies. South Korea international Ji So-Yun scored twice, with Yuki Ogimi and Katie Chapman also on target, as Chelsea claimed a second win in the FA WSL Continental Cup this week by thrashing Watford at Berkhamsted FC.
04 May – Chelsea 0-0 Norwich City. Chelsea’s final home fixture resulted in a disappointing goalless draw against a Norwich side that appeared to have accepted their fate. Equally, Chelsea seemed lacklustre in the first period, content to let the season peter out. The sides improved after the interval, with both having strong penalty claims waved away by Neil Swarbrick. David Luiz rattled the bar for The Blues, but ultimately a draw was of little use to either team.
05 May – Chelsea Youth 5-3 Fulham Youth (Agg 7-6). Chelsea won the FA Youth Cup at Stamford Bridge on Monday night, after a thrilling late comeback against a shell-shocked Fulham. The visitors, leading 3-2 from the first-leg, got the perfect start when Moussa Dembele scored from close range. Charlie Colkett squared the match on the night from the penalty spot, and Jordan Houghton levelled the tie on aggregate just 2 minutes later. Fulham responded well and scored two well-crafted goals through Patrick Roberts and Solomon Sambou before the interval to open up a seemingly unassailable two goal lead. Substitute Isak Ssewankambo reduced the deficit with a fine strike on 77 minutes, and Chelsea levelled the tie for the second time when Dominic Solanke glanced a header beyond Merek Rodak with eight minutes remaining. The game was end to end, with both teams chasing a winner in normal time. It duly arrived for Chelsea in stoppage time. Colkett cleverly back-heeling for Solanke to turn and fire past Rodak. The goal sparked mass celebrations from the players and the majority of the 13,000 supporters inside Stamford Bridge on a special night for the youngsters.
